New York Magazine announced today that its subscription iOS app is now available for iPhone, making the previously available iPad app usable across devices with a single activation. The iPhone-optimized app, developed in-house, has a simplified navigation for quick access to New York’s award-winning print and digital content, with full interactive capabilities. Access to the magazine content on the app is included as a benefit with all print and digital subscriptions, or can be purchased in-app via iTunes. The 2015 edition of New York’s popular Reasons to Love New York issue is included for free with app download.

The paid magazine content includes iPhone-optimized versions of the complete biweekly print edition, plus app exclusives and special multimedia content including a new film by artist Laurie Simmons to accompany a portfolio in this year’s Spring Fashion issue and lets readers enjoy the intimate magazine experience on their mobile devices. The app also includes a live feed of new stories each day on politics, entertainment, business, fashion, food, and more from New York Media’s websites, which include nymag.com, Vulture, the Cut, Grub Street, and Science of Us, with curated homepage selections followed by the most popular stories with readers. The website content is updated throughout the day and includes breaking news; users who download the free app can access the web content.

“In an increasingly mobile media landscape, where almost half of our web visits now come from mobile devices, we saw a demand for a printlike experience optimized for iPhone,” said editor-in-chief Adam Moss. “We have a strong, loyal subscriber base, and this gives them one more benefit, but it’s also a reason to get an all-digital subscription for readers who like the digital experience.”

“The iPhone app provides a new way to expand our digital footprint, joining desktop and mobile web, iPad app, Facebook Instant Articles, Apple News, and content syndication,” said digital general manager Michael Silberman. “We want to meet our readers where they are, and provide them with many different ways to enjoy our premium content.”

New York recently received four 2016 National Magazine Awards, the most of any publication, for General Excellence (News, Sports and Entertainment), Website, Multimedia, and Magazine Section for “The Culture Pages”; and was today named to Ad Age’s Magazine A-List.
