Stella Bugbee, president and editor-in-chief of the Cut, announced today that Katie Heaney (@ktheaney) is joining the site’s staff as senior health writer. Heaney has contributed to the Cut for several years, covering everything from our fixation with aliens, to how stress and anxiety affect our minds and bodies. She starts her new role May 14, and will cover health, wellness, and psychology.

“I’ve been a fan of Katie’s since her BuzzFeed days. It’s always nice when you can bring a person on full-time when they are one of your favorite frequent contributors,” says Bugbee.

“I love reading Katie Heaney, from the insightful essays on anxiety and mental health she’s written for us as a freelancer to the four books she’s somehow had time to write,” says senior editor Melissa Dahl, who runs the Cut’s health coverage, and will edit Heaney. “I can’t wait to work with her as a staff writer.”

Prior to working at the Cut, Heaney was a freelance journalist whose writing has appeared in the New York Times, Cosmpolitan, The Atlantic, Racked, and more. She also worked at BuzzFeed as a writer and editor. Heaney is also the author of memoirs Would You Rather? and Never Have I Ever, as well as the novels Dear Emma and Public Relations.
