You know what’s nice? When a respectable manufacturer takes a really simple, obvious idea that’s never been particularly well executed and throws a clever design team at it to make it actually good. The Sylvania DOT-it rehabs the familiar “tap light” product—those clunky, self-stick “add light anywhere!” dome lights that never particularly stuck well or added much light and whose D batteries died after just a few hours of use. The DOT-it is fits-in-your-hand tiny, lightweight (3 ounces), and has three permanent LED bulbs that throw off crisp, white light. They’re so energy-efficient that the three AAA batteries (included) last up to 100 hours. And on the back, there’s a pad of special reusable 3M adhesive, which means you can stick and unstick and reposition this baby over and over. And, in a nod to first-generation iMacs, DOT-it comes in six colors (black, silver, red, purple, lime, and orange).
