You might not even realize that the Whitney Museum of Art has a gift shop that’s distinct from the lobby bookshop. To get to it, you have to formally enter the museum (i.e., pay admission) and head down to the basement—where you’re unlikely to venture unless you’re visiting the café or using the restrooms. But the basement gift shop is where I found a clever thing of simple beauty: the Walker Athletic Wrist Gusset Pouch. It’s basically a well-constructed mesh zipper case attached to a stretchy wristband; it’s big enough to snuggly hold your keys and a few bucks and change—for your post-jog cappuccino. I’ve since discovered a few other New York merchants that carry various Walker products (including a clever iPod case), but you’ll find the best selection—including 11 different styles of the wrist gusset pouch—at walkerbags.com.
