If you haunt design shops and houseware stores, you’ve probably seen Candela Tooli nightlights—multicolored rechargeable LED lanterns that come in vaguely biomorphic shapes. Suggestive of little ghosts or friendly aliens, they were designed to be kid-friendly nightlights. Now Candela has expanded its line with DemiGlow, votive-candle-like rechargeables meant for grown-ups. Available in sets of four or eight, they light up as soon as you pull them out of their recharger base, and stay lit for a full eight hours between charges. The light is low-key and steady (i.e., they don’t flicker like some imitation candles), and, of course, they’re safe for places like bedside tables where you wouldn’t necessarily want an open flame.
$69.99 for the four-light DemiGlow ($129.99 for the eight-light set) at Oxo.com.
