Let There Be Light

Tend to bump into things when you get up in the middle of the night but hesitate to turn on a lamp for fear of disturbing your bedmate? The new Philips motion-sensitive SpotOn gadget is an easy way to automatically shine a bit (just a bit) of light on your path. It’s got three bright but not overwhelming LED bulbs (powered by the included batteries). If you want to install it permanently, like in the back of a deep cupboard, it comes with self-adhesive backing. But it’s also great for travel—i.e., navigating unfamiliar hotel rooms in the dark—because it’s so tiny (about three by three inches, and less than an inch thick). It’ll start rolling out into housewares stores early next year, but Amazon has it right now.
