STUDIO B: Everything in Lou Reed’s
second-floor studio—a collaboration between
Reed, Zivic, and studio designer Marty
Strauss—slides on rollers. Various components
are set on shelves that are tilted at angles to
facilitate easy access to the machinery. “We
were in here measuring his arms and legs for
days,” Zivic remembers. Reed—whose latest
CD is Animal Serenade—was patient and
fastidious, desperate to have it perfect. “It
was, how can he reach his keyboards and his guitar and
still read the display and still deal with the phone
if it rings?” Zivic says.
