Wowing city kids is no easy feat, but the forthcoming pop-up toy shop from Land of Nod (November 2 through December 31; 136 Prince St., nr. W. Broadway; 917-880-0809) will inspire Magorium–level wonder. The Illinois-based kids’ store partnered with more than 100 international artists and vendors to commission exclusive toy lines, including printed-fabric dolls by textile designer Suze Ultman ($24.95 each), patchwork playhouses by graphic designer Michael Mabry ($189), and sock creatures by children’s author-illustrator John Murphy (from $39). Even the shop’s interior—with its six-foot-tall stuffed animals and twinkle-lit branches—looks as if it were plucked from an enchanted forest. Puppet-making and doll-painting workshops, readings, and other events are in the works.
