Readers React: What Strategist Users Are Saying, Second Edition

The most gratifying thing about working at the Strategist is when we actually serve you, our loyal readers. So it thrills us when you not only use the things we suggest, but also let us know what you think — via TwitterFacebookInstagram, or even Amazon reviews. As much as we enjoy “liking” your reactions, we thought you’d be as tickled as we are to hear other Strategist readers’ opinions (and maybe learn about products that you might have missed in the first place). We want to hear from you, so if you’ve bought something we recommended, tell us your thoughts — even if they’re bad, we want to know.

These $100 Grandma Sandals Are More Comfortable Than Birkenstocks

“I bought these shoes because of the review written by the Strategist. I’m very picky about shoes — I walk 17,000 steps per day during the workweek, and I hate having to swap shoes. I’m forever looking for shoes that fit my lifestyle and are appropriate for the office. (I’ve had success with Teva’s Foxy boots and Naot’s Dorith sandals, for anyone in the same predicament.) I usually order shoes online from stores that have brick-and-mortar locations near me for easy returns. I decided to take a risk on these shoes because the review was so glowing. They’re okay. If I had purchased them from a store with a physical location, I’d be on the fence about returning them. The negatives: They squeak LOUDLY on linoleum floors. I’m hoping wearing them outside more will tone that down. Out of the box, I had some ankle muffin top going on from the top strap. They’ll probably fit better over time as I wear them in. I got a blister on the top of one big toe after wearing them for about 1.5 miles. [Editor’s note: Senior writer Lauren Schwartzberg experienced the same thing.] I think this pressure point will be relieved as the toe strap stretches out more, too.”

I Found the Best Nail Clipper at the Airport in Japan

“I read about these clippers in New York Magazine, the holiday-gift-ideas issue. (Getting into New York Magazine is a blessing and a curse, I can tell you from personal experience. Got into one of their ‘Best of New York’ issues and nearly drove myself crazy with work and into early retirement). If you want them as a gift, it’s too bad that they take a long time to ship, but let me just say that they are wildly wonderful and completely worth waiting for. Like nothing I’ve ever used, and I’ve been a massage therapist for many, many years and am obsessed with my fingernails. Have a bit of arthritis and would sometimes have a hard time clipping with other brands, even the ‘fancy’ ones. These are extra long and fit into your whole hand and clip so easily; it’s truly surprising. I would recommend these to anyone as the absolute best clippers available anywhere at any price, and especially if your joints are a bit weathered!”
