Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy, but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed products and single out the most convincing ones. (You can learn more about our rating system and how we pick each item here.)
And while we’ve written about lots of Christmas decorations before — including artificial Christmas trees, Christmas lights, and Christmas–tree decorations — here, we’ve rounded up the best Christmas stockings, as praised by the most enthusiastic reviewers on Amazon.
Best-rated Christmas stocking
These stockings scored high marks for their “cozy,” knit look. One reviewer who calls them “perfect” doesn’t “like the standard, bulky red and white stocking.” Instead, she wanted “something chic and cozy,” especially considering her “color theme” for Christmas was “ivory and pink.” She couldn’t bear ruining that with more traditional-looking stockings, so she settled on these. “These stockings look just right! The color is a true ivory, no yellow at all. If you’re looking for a shabby chic, cozy stocking then these are perfect for you.” Another reviewer’s wife wanted Ugg-brand stockings, but he “couldn’t believe spending close to $60 for four STOCKINGS!” So he ordered these as a plan B, and it seems to have worked out, because he’s “just WOWED by the quality of these stockings!” Aside from looks, though, reviewers say these have enough room to actually put stuffers inside. One reviewer writes, “They are stretchy enough to shove lots of gifts in there, but not so stretchy that I’m worried about them losing their shape.”
Best-rated (less expensive) Christmas stocking
“It looks classy, tasteful, and has just enough Christmas ‘umph’ without being cheesy,” writes one reviewer who calls this “such a beautiful stocking, especially for the price.” And many more reviewers appreciate the traditional yet stylish look of these stockings. One says she “was over the moon with the quality AND price,” noting that these stockings “made the holiday a bit more fun and definitely more stylish.” Another thinks that “the picture does not do them justice,” writing, “I appreciate their unique appearance as they are different than many of the more typically designed Christmas stockings you find on the market. They are a good color of red for Christmas too and their styling works for both classy or whimsical decor.” But aside from being attractive, they’re also “a good size to fill with little gifts.” And one more feels like she “just hit a home run in the World Series” with these stockings because they’re easy to “embroider and hang on the mantel.”
And now for some micro-picks for every type of Christmas stocking you might be looking for.
Best Christmas–stocking kit
Nothing gets you in the Christmas spirit quite like making your own stockings. At least, that’s how the reviewers of this stocking kit felt. “With time, this is an awesome stocking, very detailed and ready to pop out as in a sweet dream. Any little girl would love to hang in anticipation of Santa,” writes one reviewer. She suggests you “order this item now with plenty of time for Christmas.” Many more reviewers say you need ample time to make this because it’s labor intensive. “It took me approximately two months to complete,” writes one shopper, but they also note, “Don’t give up. The more you make, the faster you get.” Another crafty customer wanted to give her kids “a special homemade stocking to cherish.” She says, “yes, they take hours and hours,” but thinks, “They are so beautiful when you are done, all the time is worth it. I was a beginner when I started, and my seeing skills are still not great, but I’ve made five of these now and loved making each one.”
Best plain Christmas stocking
More crafty reviewers looked to these plain red felt stockings for Christmas because they’re a blank canvas. “The price made it possible for us to make 12 new custom stockings, one for everyone at our Christmas dinner this year,” writes one reviewer. Another brought these to a “Christmas in July event at work” because they wanted to have a “stocking-decorating contest.” He settled on these, writing, “This was the best deal we could find (especially in July). They are decent quality for the price and everyone had fun decorating! I covered mine with felt and used fabri-tac glue. It didn’t take long to dry and stayed on well.” One more reviewer used “puffy paint on the white part” and thinks they turned out well. Plus, she adds, “They have hanging loops in them for ease of hanging. Looks good in the office.”
Best Christmas stocking for stocking stuffers
Not all stockings are created to be stuffed, and for reviewers looking for function over decoration, these Imperial Home stockings fit the bill. One reviewer confirms that these stockings have “plenty of space for lots and lots of stocking stuffers.” Another adds that they are also “strong enough to hold lots of nice stuffers,” but best of all, “They look so nice above the fireplace.” And many more reviewers were surprised with how nice these actually look for the price. One customer “was expecting them to be thin and cheap,” but reports, “Mine are really thick. I ordered two sets and they were so fluffy all stacked up. The back is a solid red felt material. No visible stitching problems. Our house has a vintage Christmas feel so these were perfect.”
Best Christmas stocking with 3-D designs
The 3-D design on these stockings stood out to customers, literally and figuratively. “I love the 3-D look. It really pops,” writes one reviewer who plans to use these for many years. Another thinks that “the picture in the description of the stockings do them absolutely no justice,” and writes, “The snowman, Santa, and reindeer on these stockings are 3-D! These are absolutely adorable. My boys love them.” She also looks “forward to using them for years to come.” And a third reviewer thinks it rounded out all of their decorations, adding, “It made our Christmas decorations look very festive.”
