This project does not imply that NAACP_LDF endorses the Strategist or eBay.

This month, eBay, in partnership with the Strategist, went back to some of our favorite celebrity shoppers — including rapper Saweetie — to ask them about things that they can live without and would be willing to sell at auction for charity. All proceeds will go to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (eBay is receiving and donating all proceeds and matching every dollar the auction earns). There’s an element of nostalgia in everything I do. When I was filming the “My Type” music video, I included things from my childhood that are near and dear to my heart, like the Bay Area, basketball, and Nike Air Force 1 sneakers. I was obsessed with the sneakers growing up — Nelly had a song out in the early 2000s called “Air Force Ones” — and I had to have a pair. I could never get them in my size, so I always bought a size too big and wore extra socks to make them fit. One could say I was being really thirsty.

When I got to set the day we filmed “My Type” and saw a basketball hoop, I was like, “It would be so dope to hang some customized Air Force 1’s from the rim.” After making a phone call and sharing my ideas, Bay Area artist Terrence Marley offered to spray-paint graffiti saying “My Type” and “Saweetie” on a pair. The moment I saw them, I fell in love. But I don’t like to wear statement pieces multiple times, so they’ve been in my closet collecting dust ever since. Since I love to be creative, I’m also giving the winning bidder a CD, a signed Polaroid photo, and a Walkman that I’m going to personalize. The CD nods to the burnt CDs I’d give my friends in high school and will have two songs on it plus a recorded message that no one else in the world will have. And they’ll get the Walkman — decorated hella icy — because I want to make sure the winner will be able to listen to the CD.

The Strategist is designed to surface the most useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape. Some of our latest conquests include the best acne treatments, rolling luggage, pillows for side sleepers, natural anxiety remedies, and bath towels. We update links when possible, but note that deals can expire and all prices are subject to change.
