We’re in the dog days of summer, literally: The period between July 3 and August 11 is known as such because of the position of the sun relative to Sirius (which is often referred to as the Dog Star). This time also happens to be the hottest stretch of the season. Whether you’re a dog or a human, one of the best ways to cool off when it’s sweltering out is to splash in some water. If you can’t get to a public pool or beach, there’s always the bathtub — but we think a less messy way to soak on hot summer afternoons would be outside in a portable pool that can be set up in no time. Those who lack the patience to inflate something will find a foldable pool, like this one we spied on sale, a lot more appealing. Designed for dogs, it can also be used by kiddos, as Strategist contributor Regan Stephens discovered after buying a similar dog pool for her three children last summer. The style we found is made from durable, nonslip PVC and has thick fiberboard walls that can withstand rambunctious pups and children alike (the company just suggests trimming pets’ nails before they jump in). Conveniently, the biggest size of the pool (XL) is one of the most discounted: In this “light grey” color, it’s a mere $35. Measuring 63 inches in diameter, the XL pool is plenty big for large dogs, smaller children, or both. You can get the same size in two other colors for a bit more money (both are still on sale for less than $40), and there are deals on smaller sizes of the pool, too. According to Amazon, all of those sales expire by 3 a.m. PDT — so if you like it, don’t dillydally.
The Strategist is designed to surface the most useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape. Some of our latest conquests include the best acne treatments, rolling luggage, pillows for side sleepers, natural anxiety remedies, and bath towels. We update links when possible, but note that deals can expire and all prices are subject to change.
