There are many types of camp stoves out there, but there are generally two extremes: large, heavy, luxurious stoves that can cook big portions of food (think: car camping), and tiny, lightweight models (mostly intended for backpacking) that are meant to just boil water and cook up smaller meals. The JetBoil MiniMo falls on the lighter end of that spectrum, but its compact size and super-fast boiling time make it just as useful in both scenarios, which is why I pack it on any camping trip. And right now, it’s 25 percent off.
As its name suggests, the MiniMo is meant to boil water quickly. I’ve boiled water in less than three minutes with the MiniMo, which makes it great for morning coffee at camp (even when I’ve brought a bigger twin-burner stove for cooking meals, I’ll boil water with the MiniMo because it’s often faster), or backpacking meals that require only hot water. After about three years of use, the ignite button has never malfunctioned. I love that I never have to scramble to find a lighter to get it going. I also love the locking feature that keeps the stove and the pot connected — I don’t have to worry about balancing a pot or bowl on top of it. The outer material is a koozie-like soft material, which means you can hold the pot as it’s boiling. (It also has two fold-out handles that turn it into a mug for pouring.) It’s not the lightest or slimmest stove, but its ease of use and lightning-quick boiling time make it my most-used stove. Plus the system nests into itself, which makes packing it a breeze.
