The Strategist Guide to Shopping at Brooklinen

Photo: Retailers

Anyone who has shopped at a retailer you can’t physically browse knows it can be hard to figure out where to begin. There are lots of options that all seem as worthy as the next, but the reality is that not all products from a given brand are created equal. When you shop as regularly as we do, you learn that many brands just do some things better than they do other things. Take Brooklinen, for instance: Since its debut in 2014, it has not only been hard to avoid seeing ads from the Brooklyn-based linens retailer (which has since expanded its line to include bath products and clothing), but also hard to distinguish between its many crisp-and-cozy-looking products. To help you narrow down which duvets, sheets, towels, and loungewear are worth buying, we culled our archives to put together a list of the most-praised products from Brooklinen we’ve written about, from ”luxurious” terry-cloth towels to doctor-recommend cooling sheets to the bedding we (and interior designers) swear by.

For your bedroom

Sleep experts, interior designers, and Strategist writers have all sung the praises of Brooklinen’s linen sheets, especially for their temperature-regulating abilities for sweaty sleepers. This bundle includes everything you need to dress your bed in Brooklinen linen, including a duvet cover, flat sheet, fitted sheet, and four pillowcases. According to former Strategist writer Lauren Levy, who said these very sheets made her “fall in love with linen sheets,” they are “breathable,” “temperature-controlled” and “stonewashed for an immediately worn-in feel that only gets softer over time.” Summing it up, Levy describes the feeling of them against her skin as “like an angel’s kiss.” Pulmonologist Dr. Margarita Oks adds that her patients with sleep apnea who have used these sheets say their looser weave and soft, cooling fabric help them get a better rest. Plus, they just look nice, according to Modsy interior designer Alessandra Wood, who has also recommended them to us.

If you don’t want to buy the bundle, you can buy Brooklinen’s linen duvet cover and core set of linen sheets (which includes one flat sheet, one fitted sheet, and two pillowcases) individually below. Whether purchased individually or in a set, there are several colors and sizes to choose from.

Should you prefer cotton bedding, Brooklinen’s Luxe Core cotton sheet set is a favorite of former Strategist writer David Notis and Michelin-starred chef Missy Robbins, who both love the bedding for its softness, crisp look, and temperate feel. Notis assures us that these sheets “don’t have the shiny look other sateen sheets sometimes get,” and Robbins promises that, while a bit heavier than linen, the cotton is still lightweight and cooling enough. “I want to be super-cozy, but I don’t want to sweat to death,” she says. “These have that balance.”

This hardcore sheet bundle, which is also interior-designer-approved, includes a duvet cover that one expert calls “a great and easy staple,” along with a flat sheet, a fitted sheet, and four pillowcases. But you can also buy the duvet cover or core set of these sheets (which includes a flat sheet, fitted sheet, and two pillow cases) individually below. Whether purchased individually or in a set, there are several colors and sizes to choose from.

We’ve noted before that these “elegantly stitched” quilts have “a tendency to sell out” — and that may be because they are “the ideal summer to winter mid-weight blanket.” Their perfect-for-shoulder-season status means that with warmer weather ahead, now would be the perfect time to scoop one up. And while our favorite color is this snazzy navy, there are other white styles (with different colored stitching) available as well.

From $109

In our roundup of the best down pillows, Brooklinen’s high-quality yet affordable option came recommended by sleep-science coach Alex Savy, the founder of sleep-product-review website SleepingOcean. “It’s nicely made, with neat stitching and a 100 percent cotton cover that uses a sateen weave and feels heavenly soft and silky to the touch,” Savy says. “It does not sacrifice quality for the price tag.” You can choose from three different densities — plush, mid-plush, and firm — each of which has a different fill composition to suit your personal preference.

For new parents, soon-to-be-parents, or those looking to gift something special to the kiddos in their lives, Brooklinen also has a collection for babies and toddlers with the adorable name Brooklittles. It includes gender-neutral sheet sets, quilts, blankets, and swaddles all made from chemical-free 100 percent cotton.

For your bathroom

Former Strategist writer Lori Keong upgraded her “cheapo” Kohl’s towels to these Brooklinen ones back in 2018. “They’re exactly what I would want if I didn’t already own them,” she writes, noting they’d make a nice gift, whether to yourself or someone else. “They’re so soft and luxurious, and big enough to swaddle yourself in.”

The set above includes two towels, but you can also buy a bigger bundle with two bath towels, two hand towels, and a bath mat, below. Both the two-pack and the towel bundle are available in several colors, too.

After it debuted in 2019, we wrote that Brooklinen’s shower curtain, which comes with a liner and the hooks you need to hang it from a rod, “has a similar, understated charm.” It comes in four styles, whose prints range from neutral (thin, light-gray stripes) to more noticeable (an abstract peach pattern that’s vaguely reminiscent of Momofuku’s peach logo).

For your body

“My general WFH outfit philosophy is that comfort is key,” says freelance writer and Strategist contributor Taylor Trudon. After Brooklinen launched its loungewear line, she ordered these “supersoft” fleece joggers — which have an elasticized waist and three pockets — and lately, she’s been “living in” them. We also covered the debut of Brooklinen’s loungewear line, noting its offerings extend to similarly cozy men’s joggers and simple jersey T-shirts.

We consulted several stylish ladies on the best women’s bathrobe, and Hailey Rizzo, who runs fashion blog Feeling Good As Hail, says this fluffy, fuzzy one is her go-to winter robe. She immediately knew she needed it when she spotted it during one of her “sheet-shopping excursions” at Brooklinen and says it makes her feel like she’s “ready to jump into bed and watch movies all day.”
