If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what famous people add to their carts. Not the JAR brooch and Louis XV chair but the hair spray and the electric toothbrush. We asked Jennie Garth about the Pringles-like chips she keeps in her car, the brain-boosting supplement she swears by, and the wine-smuggling water bottle she’s used for years.
I have a secret homemade face spray that I’ve always made. I want to package it and sell it because it’s so amazing. There are only a handful of ingredients in it, and I’m constantly spraying myself because it smells so good. I put probably six to eight different essential oils in my spray. There are some great places online where you can get pure essential oils, like doTERRA. There’s some ylang ylang in there — that’s a great smell. The spray also has some jasmine and citrus, and there’s carrot-seed oil for antiaging. It’s perfect after you wash your face because it gives you a base of hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, and essential oils that sort of emulsifies and makes the product go on smoother. I also use it as a setting spray because it gives you a little bit of a dewy glow.
I’m a patient of Dr. Amen’s, and through him, I learned my predisposition for way too much thinking based on my SPECT scan and my brain activity. The activity in a person’s brain can really tell you a lot about what their struggles are mentally. And so I’ve been working with him and learning a lot about my own brain and thinking patterns. That’s how I got turned on to his products. I don’t know how these work specifically, but it just calms my brain. They keep me from having anxiety, overthinking things, and stressing too much. It can be taken as needed, but I take it every morning because I just think, Let me combat this from the get-go.
My husband gave this to me a few years ago for Christmas, and I love it. It feels good that I’m not using plastic. Also, it’s pink and it fits perfectly in any cup holder because it’s skinnier at the bottom. You can fit a bottle of wine in it if you need to. I have friends who use it for that, and it does keep their wine cold. I haven’t been drinking recently, but it’s good to know it does work for that. I was never a water person, but as I get older, I see my body becoming thirstier for all things liquid. People say if you pinch the skin on the back of your hand and pull it up, if it goes back down slowly it means you’re dehydrated. I used to do that to my babysitter when I was a little girl and watch her skin go back so slowly and be like, “Oh my God, what is that about?” because then I would do it to my young hand and it would snap right back. Now it doesn’t go back the way it once did. That’s why I’m like, “More water, please!”
This is an old product I always have in my purse. I think it started as a gift in my bridal-shower swag bag. Yes to Carrots gave them to me to put in there, but I had to take all the tubes out because I wanted them for myself. I keep one by my bed and one in my purse. It’s the perfect creamy consistency and not gooey. I don’t want my lips to tingle. I want to just have an easy moisturizing experience.
I’m obsessed with these. They come in a tube and they’re like a healthier Pringle. They’re very crunchy and just a tiny bit salty, and I don’t feel that guilty about eating them as much as I do. I just get the original flavor, but they come in a few. I always have these chips in my car, too. I don’t know if that’s weird, but if you ever go on a drive with me, I’ll have a snack for you in my car somewhere. I believe in never leaving the house without a snack, maybe just because I’ve been a mom for so long.
I’m a pandemic golfer, so I just started a couple of years ago. I’m learning more every time I go out, and every time I go, I get a little bit better. It’s a very slow process, but my husband got me into it because he’s really into golf. We joined the golf club by our house and I love going there by myself and having a couple of hours of solitude once a week where it’s just me and the golf ball and nature. Golf is a mental exercise the whole time. You have to be in the right mental space for it, but if you are, it can be incredibly meditative. I just recently got PxG clubs, and they have a great flex in them that makes them easier to hit. I’m especially fond of my hybrid woods.
I love it because it works. It’s easy to travel with, it’s easy to throw in your purse, and it’s effective. I started working on the CareWalks campaign shining a spotlight on caregivers, and from that, I learned all about Voltaren Gel and the effects it has. [Editor’s note: Garth is a spokesperson for Voltaren Gel.] I also learned about people around me who were using Voltaren Gel and I had no idea. It was a conversation that wasn’t being had. So there’s an opportunity to talk about arthritis and bring awareness and destigmatize it, because so many people think that when you suffer from arthritis, you’re old. That’s just not the case. There are so many people who are suffering out there in silence, and why do that? That’s no fun.
