    Video: Rock Meets Cute at Anna SuiBackstage at Anna Sui, Jada Yuan caught the bustle before the show. During styling, model Coco Rocha consider Sui’s looks: “It’s a mixture of rock and cute. And that’s what I love: to be cute some days and [then] be a little punk.” This season, the designer was inspired by the redecoration of her own home.     Zip It Good It won’t be hard to slip into next season’s dresses with so many exposed zippers. Though his overall show got tepid reviews, Derek Lam was dead-on in incorporating visible zippers into most looks. Carlos Miele’s dark, ruched dresses came with a sexy zipper up the front. And Behnaz Sarafpour highlighted her external zippers all the more with bright yellow trim on an otherwise subdued gray dress. So come fall, remember to zip up.

    Fashion Report Card: Calvin and Vera Rise to the Top Proenza Schouler and Michael Kors were the critics’ kings yesterday. Today, reviews are pouring in for Vera Wang, Y-3, Calvin Klein, and Anna Sui. Did Vera’s Bolsheviks win the revolution? Or did Yohji’s sporty Y-3 score points?

    Now Entering ‘Hattytown’ Marc Jacobs may have wowed the crowds with his beautiful fedoras, but a more wearable option for fall is the bucket hat. Max Azria paired his hats with dresses, belted tunics, and skirts, all worn over tights. Abaete’s were more mod than flapper, topping a sunglass-sporting model in a turtleneck dress. Proenza Schouler used them in every look, from fur-trimmed coats to belted sweaterdresses. If you can’t afford the clothes, represent with a hat.

    The Latest Accessory: Children If top editors make trends, then it’s time to get pregnant. At fall shows, the only thing Anna Wintour is holding tighter than fur coats is her shiny-haired daughter, Bee Shaffer. The Europeans are also in step, as French Vogue editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld has been spotted all over town with her party-hopping daughter, Julia. And it’s not just daughters who are being shown off; Cathy Horyn of the New York Times has been toting her son, Jacob, around. This trend is sure to stick: Youth never goes out of style.

    André Leon Talley’s Fashion Week Picks Part II: Crashing Into a Radar of American Elegance Earlier this week, André Leon Talley rhapsodized to us about Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta. We caught up with him at Vera Wang to get his updated assessment of the week — just click the links to see the looks.     Jump Day No longer just for men at work, the jumpsuit is back; and hugging feminine curves in all the right places. Diesel showed three different variations, but this gray, short-sleeved, futuristic version best sculpted an hourglass shape. Luca Luca’s skin-tight, snow-white suit is guaranteed to get lots of attention. And the baggiest, most utilitarian take belongs to Anna Sui, who added a quirky twist with gold chains and cargo pockets. Jumpsuits: They’ll jolt you ahead of the pack for fall.

    Thakoon Pulls Beauty Out of Chaos Rising-star designer Thakoon Panichgul’s well-reviewed Fashion Week show — attended by Anna Wintour, a fan — was all the more impressive considering he spent the stretch run before his collection debuted dealing with a surprise crackdown by the Man. The 32-year-old designer recently found out the Tribeca studio space he’d been renting was actually an illegal sublet, and with days remaining before his Monday show, the building’s new owners informed him they would no longer let him work weekends.

    Zac Posen Partygoers Huddle for Warmth on Dance FloorZac Posen is so far ahead of his time he held his after-party in a yet-to-be-opened restaurant’s downstairs bar. The D’Or at Amalia, attached to Vikram Chatwal’s Dream Hotel in Hell’s Kitchen, will someday become a destination, but last night it was hardly party-ready.

    Video: Fashion Veteran Likes ‘Crap and Couture’ Fashion editor Debby de Montfort came to Fashion Week well layered. Her tastes range from designer to vintage to H&M — “crap and couture,” she says. Though she loved Ports 1961, Debby thinks most recent collections have skewed young: “Unless you’re 12 years old and have high blood pressure, I don’t know where you’re going to wear these clothes.” Watch more videos from fall 2007 Fashion Week.

    Designers Have Us Jumping Through Hoops Fashion took a playful turn on volume this season with the hoop skirt. Channeling Scarlett O’Hara, Thakoon showed a pleated, gray version, belted at the waist. Rodarte offered up a few hoops, including this bright gold dress worn with a gray cardigan. Calvin Klein, always the minimalist, took a more subtle approach and had his skirts simply puff out at bottom. Finally, a fun, new silhouette worth giving a damn about.

    Fabiola, Tinsley, and Cuba Gooding Jr. Scream for ‘Nookie!’ Wednesday’s installment of the Fab Life is an epic. Riding the Fashion Week whirlwind, Fabiola hits five shows, arranges to host the Radar relaunch, chats up Zinedine Zidane, and has an unfortunate encounter with a can of Coke Zero. 9 a.m. Woke up to Vera Wang and Calvin Klein garment bags for the shows tomorrow. But I had to try on the looks later, as I had Michael Kors at 10 a.m. and an interview with the Palm Beach Post (for CIRCA) to do before that!

    Bang-Up Job Ruffian, Miss Sixty, Vera Wang.Photo: imaxtree.com Hair stylists have really laid it on thick this season, cutting bangs into heavy blocks. The soft, side-sweeping style has been edged out at Miss Sixty with Irina Lazareanu’s straight, eye-length fringe. The look at Vera Wang was slightly more severe as bangs were chopped bluntly. Ruffian’s bulky bangs were slightly shorter, though no less heavy, and bleached platinum circa 1987 Madonna. When you’re transitioning from a light spring look, this is just the do to keep you chic and warm for fall.

Fictional: Eloise: lived at the Plaza, wore great patent-leather mary janes, and was always in search of an adventure; timeless. Real: My partner, Andrew; he’s the best backseat driver I know.

    Jeffrey Sebelia: Tim, Stop Wearing Banana Republic! As the Fug Girls pointed out, Project Runway winner Jeffrey Sebelia was the first on his feet at the end of Vera Wang’s fashion show. Jada Yuan caught him as he headed out the door. Are you in town seeing other shows? This is it. Why just Vera? Because I love what she does. It was a beautiful show. It was just deliciously soft. It was so sort of edgy and dark. I like her direction. What have you been up to since the end of Project Runway? Selling my Cosa Nostra men’s and women’s lines and doing really well.

We can’t pick one thing, or two things, or three or four. We loved it all, from the adorned flat boots to the cashmere kerchiefs and absolutely everything in between. A breathtaking show inspired by early 20th-century Russia. Take a look for yourself. Loved not only the pieces, but the styling, too. It was the only standing ovation, thus far, of the week, and it was totally deserved. 2. The ever-flamboyant Zac Posen’s more restrained opening passage. 3. Lyn Devon, a newcomer, showed lovely kimono jackets with dramatically draped backs.

    Roopal Patel of Bergdorf Goodman Likes Marc Jacobs, De la Renta, and Thakoon So far, buyers from Bergdorf Goodman, Bird, Henri Bendel, and Intermix have told us which runway looks they plan to snatch up for fall. Roopal Patel, women’s fashion director at Bergdorf Goodman, tells us her latest picks. Roopal will be stocking Marc Jacobs’s strapless dress, Thakoon’s rose-print pieces, and Oscar de la Renta’s cozy knits.

Since she’s not shooting right now, Piper has time to hit the tents.     Socialites Chilly Toward Vera Wang There are several people we’d expect to give Vera Wang a standing ovation, but Project Runway season-three winner Jeffrey Sebelia is not one of them. And yet he was the first person on his feet at the end of Wang’s show this afternoon.

    Bush Twin Misses Seeing Amanda Lepore NakedThere was a sort of joy in the air at the Proenza Schouler after-party at Beatrice Inn. (And a lot of smoke — even the dubious Romanians who’ve been everywhere this Fashion Week had to take their cat and go home.) The designers had all shown and were drinking merrily. Upstairs, the dance party went on under disco lights till the wee hours of the morning.

    Video: Backstage at Doo.Ri, Rushing to Conform Backstage at Doo.Ri, Jada Yuan finds stylists who must make the latecomers look like the other models, even when there’s no time to curl hair. “I am pushed by the wind!” one exclaimed.     Miss. J. Gets Inspired at Badgley Mischka Because it is the custom of celebrities to come pouring into a show just before it begins, it was weird to see Giada de Laurentiis squeezing past us to get out of the tent before the lights went down at Badgley Mischka. Maybe she realized that she’d left the oven on?

    Designers Punk Out With Blue Hair, Eyes Shots of electric blue have been all over the fall runways, and beauty trends are following suit. Most famously, Marc Jacobs dyed his models’ hair blue, adding a punkish twist to an otherwise entirely sophisticated collection. Duckie Brown added turquoise undertones to the moppy-haired models of his men’s collection. And Jovovich-Hawk applied shocking blue around the eyes. Just be sure to use in moderation, in order to avoid Smurfette comparisons.

    Video: How to Look Lovely for 36 Hours Tom Travis’s mother called him in sick from school in England so he could D.J. the Teen Vogue party here in New York. Records took up most of his luggage, so he could only pack two outfits to wear during his 36-hour stay.     Fashion Report Card: Critics Clutch Proenza to Bosom, But Turn on Rodarte After savaging Derek Lam, Narciso, and Doo.Ri yesterday, the critics softened up a bit for Michael Kors and Proenza. But who exactly likes Rodarte still? And will Malandrino dance her way out of critics’ hearts?

    Ann Watson of Henri Bendel Likes Kors, Sui, and Malandrino So far, buyers from Bergdorf Goodman, Bird, and Intermix have told us which runway looks they plan to snatch up for fall. Now Ann Watson, VP fashion director at Henri Bendel, joins the party. Ann will be stocking Michael Kors’s cocktail dresses, Anna Sui’s prints, and Malandrino’s purples.

    Sheer Delights Why dress for warmth when you can expose yourself? Designers are doling out sheer necklines for fall’s cocktail attire. Proenza Schouler’s iridescent midnight-blue dress comes with see-through ornate collar and bodice. Erin Fetherston’s black minidress covers up (sort of) with a sheer black, three-quartered sleeve overlay. And BCBG’s geometrically cut-out collar and sleeves offer slivers of skin, which will accessorize nicely with goose bumps.

    In Which Tim Gunn Discovers Stockings Everyone’s favorite fashion mentor, Tim Gunn, just added more of his favorite fall shows to his fashion album. He gave Tracy Reese and Diane von Furstenberg “two big wows!” He loved Reese’s design sensibility and her hosiery and shoes. “When have I ever waxed poetic about a stocking? Never, until now!” And DVF’s collection was “drop-dead elegance.” Gunn was floored by the metallics and prints and pondered the question: “Can any designer be more divine?” Look at Tim’s album.     Nobody Ties a Bow Like Gilles Mendel In the Tuesday installment of her Fashion Week diary — coming soon: Wednesday! — socialite and CIRCA creative director Fabiola Beracasa hobnobs with Japanese magazines, Trip Gabriel, Carlos Mota, and the ever-present Derek Blasberg. 9:30 a.m. Met with my makeup artist Alexa at my home. She does her thing, and then at 11 a.m. I ran to the J.Mendel showroom to pick out a look for the show on Thursday. The Japanese magazine Glamorous came along to shoot me for their fashion story.

    Y-3 Has Them Falling Out of Their Seats We’re sure the idea to hold the Y-3 show in the gymnasium at Hunter College made a lot of sense at the time. The athletic venue dovetailed nicely with the sporty collection, which — with its track-pants and slouchy sweaters and peacoats — reminded us of something the richest kid at your college would wear out to the gym on a cold day. It was cute the way the time clock counted down to the start of the show, and we certainly appreciated the popcorn and spiked sodas. On the other hand, sitting on the bleachers wasn’t fun ten years ago, and it’s even less fun when you’re surrounded by people who are all either bigger than your typical student or wrapped in bigger, furrier, more expensive coats.

Avion Feminin — a small, quiet and brand new line showing by appointment only in the West Village. It’s exactly the pared-down cool that girls who really live and work in New York want. We’re crossing our fingers that some clever boutique will snap it up. 2. The exploded high-tops and collared hoodie at Y-3. 3. It was a little bit warmer today. We liked that.

    Delusions of Celebrity Grandeur at Anna Sui She may have just decried all the Fashion Week runway shows as “bullshit,” but that apparently hasn’t stopped Amber Tamblyn from frolicking in this fetid dung heap. She and a friend soldiered through the shallow experience of sitting front row at Anna Sui on Wednesday night, even going so far as to waltz to their seats in what looked like chipper moods. Perhaps when they pre-partied backstage, they upgraded to absinthe from the weak-ass bourbon she reportedly swilled before Max Azria.

    At Proenza Schouler, Only the Photographers Are Rowdy Until today, we’d never been to a show that was running so late that the models were being given their catwalk instructions as we took our seats. Unlike other shows that run behind schedule (why, hello, Marc Jacobs), Proenza Schouler started a perfectly respectable 45 minutes late.

    Eye of the Storm: Backstage at HeatheretteFrom the outside, Heatherette may have been a total fiasco, but our Jada Yuan found that inside was nothing but love. Backstage, Richie Rich’s aromatherapist was dressed like Dorothy but didn’t seem to know why. A misty Lydia Hearst remembered the boys from back in the day (“I really consider them part of my family”) while Omahyra favored Heatherette for the bloodlust: “This is the shit. Everybody’s fighting to get in here.” Watch the video.

    Catherine Malandrino: Where Fashion Fears to TreadWe found it deliciously evil that Catherine Malandrino scheduled her fall-winter 2007 at the Chelsea Art Museum to coincide with “Dangerous Beauty,” an exhibit that forces visitors to walk across a floor of bathroom scales. The very idea that a bunch of fashionistas, bundled up in an extra ten pounds of outerwear no less, might be required to traipse across a gigantic Floor of Judgment in order to see Malandrino’s show thoroughly tantalized us. The prospect had absolutely nothing to do with our decision to wear fewer layers today. Nothing at all.

    Former Model Veronica Webb Reminisces at the Runways New York’s Amy Larocca found former Revlon model Veronica Webb in the tents, wearing an outfit she chose “based on how warm I could be and how cute I could be at the same time.” While modeling has changed since Webb walked runways in the eighties, some things are always the same. “I never felt like I was thin enough,” she said.     Narciso Rodriguez Clowns Fellow DesignersSoon after fighting through the velvet ropes to get into Narciso Rodriguez’s after-party at the Gramercy Park Hotel, we encountered the man himself. At first, we weren’t sure all the effort had been worth it. When we asked what inspired him this year, we were told, “Everything from football to the body in motion, from the tropics to shadows. I’m looking to the future and making things that are new.” Uh-huh. Yawn.

    Even the Fug Girls Love Michael Kors We’ve been looking forward to the Michael Kors show all week, if only because we’re suffering from serious Project Runway withdrawal. It seems like the rest of the world felt the same way, because his show this morning was packed to the gills with people looking to get a piece of the Kors. The morning got off to a good start when we spotted Fergie — not that Fergie; the former Duchess of York Fergie — stroll into the tent with Robert Verdi. The Weight Watchers spokeswoman still appears to be counting her points, because she looked chic and svelte in a black skirt and blouse.

    Amber Tamblyn, Life of the (Admittedly Crappy) PartyIs it just us, or do the parties this week totally blow? Thankfully, Amber Tamblyn, who is just one whirling dervish of former teen-talks-to-God-dramedy fun, doesn’t appear to know this. We love everything about the 23-year-old Joan of Arcadia alum, from her flirty sense of style to her dry quips answering stupid press questions (Q: “How are you handling the madness of Fashion Week?” A: “Quaaludes. Lots of quaaludes”).

    Touch of GrayThere’s nothing ambiguous about one of fall’s biggest breaking trends: gray eye shadow. Doo.Ri complemented intricate updos with striking smoky eyes lined in black with shades of sparkling silver. Alice Roi’s sultry, ashen style dipped the shadow beneath the eyes. Toni Maticevski pushed the trend the furthest, slathering his models’ eyebrows and temples with gray powder. With so many designers opting for pale faces, these shots of gray add a much-needed touch of color, so to speak.

    Derek Lam Won’t Judge ‘Project Runway’ Derek Lam (the proud new designer for Tod’s) showed at the Tunnel in Chelsea on Tuesday and kept with the season: belted silhouettes, high-waisted pants, and to-die-for double-breasted coats. Jocelyn Guest caught up with him for a quick chat on Project Runway and the rise of Asian designers at Fashion Week.

    How Long Will the Tents Tolerate Heatherette? Another Fashion Week. Another Heatherette show that was a complete, soul-sucking mess. And that was outside the venue. Like last season, we had seats. And like last season, that didn’t matter because the setup was such an unmitigated disaster. Somehow every other show at Bryant Park manages to make it pretty easy to get all ticketed parties in distinct lines and in their seats without screaming pandemonium. Not Heatherette. Never Heatherette. And certainly not at a Heatherette show that promised a Wizard of Oz theme complete with socialite Lydia Hearst as Dorothy.
