North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un has issued a new state decree, according to the BBC: From now on, the only haircut option for men will be the Kim Jong-un. A square-headed under-shave is required regardless of facial structure, hair type, or, you know, personal freedom:
“Our leader’s haircut is very particular, if you will,” one source tells Radio Free Asia. “It doesn’t always go with everyone since everyone has different face and head shapes.”
Reasons for the haircut mandate were not given, but it’s only the latest North Korean hair edict. Back in 2005, the BBC also reported on an intensive media campaign in Pyongyang against long hair. A five-part TV series aired, which “stressed the ‘negative effects’ of long hair on ‘human intelligence development’, noting that long hair ‘consumes a great deal of nutrition’ and could thus rob the brain of energy.”
