Very sad news: The New York Post reports that the designer L’Wren Scott has killed herself. An assistant reportedly discovered her at 10 a.m. this morning in her apartment on 11th Avenue, hanging by a scarf. So far no note has been found. The Daily News says that there is currently no sign of foul play, though an official cause of death has not yet been determined. She was 49.
Scott, who has been dating Mick Jagger since 2001, launched her successful apparel business in 2006. (Read a New York profile here.) A representative for Scott did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
UPDATE: Detective Marc Nell, a spokesperson for the NYPD, has confirmed that the person discovered was L’Wren Scott. An anonymous law enforcement official told the Associated Press that she was discovered “hanging from a doorknob,” which Nell says is still unconfirmed.
A L’Wren Scott spokesperson issued the following statement on Monday afternoon: “We can confirm the tragic death of L’Wren Scott. At this devastating time for Ms. Scott’s family and friends, we request that their privacy be respected.”
