It might sound like a detail from a future utopia, but remote-controlled, everlasting birth control is closer to becoming a reality than you might think.

The Gates Foundation is currently developing a replacement for the standard birth control. Instead of the annoying, once-a-day pill, contraceptive hormones will apparently be delivered by smart capsule, will last 16 years, and can be controlled by a wireless signal. Testing starts in 2015, with a goal to reach the market by 2018, so really, the future is now! FYI, the FDA warns that wirelessly controlled medical devices are susceptible to hacking, so the future is also slightly terrifying.
