Karl Lagerfeld is not one to forget the little people — or, in this case, the petites mains, the seamstresses who do the intricate handwork essential to couture. At his Chanel couture show today, Lagerfeld took attendees including Willow Smith and Jessica Chastain inside the atelier, with models walking through a faux design studio complete with mannequins, cutting tables, paper patterns, and facing mirrors.

The seamstresses were on set to “fit” the models as they walked the runway, putting the inner workings of the couture studio on display. Edie Campbell closed out the show as the traditional couture bride, and Lagerfeld took his bow alongside some of his seamstresses, parading them around the set to great applause. And yes, that is a double-C-branded quilted sewing kit the woman on the left is wearing around her neck.
