The Scarf (l’écharpe). Not the classic carré Hermès silk scarf, though that may be seen tied around a purse strap. Rather, these are “big chunky wool scarves you wear even into spring.” Many scarf hounds have been buying them from goldenhook.fr, whose online army of actual French mamies (grandmas) will custom-knit the pythonlike scarf of your Madame Defarge dreams (for a not-cheap 175-plus euros). The Celine Box Bag “C’est le ‘must-have’ de la saison!” says stylist Philippe Uter, who also nominates loafers without socks or with very discreet ones (“Basic Tod’s, but the big one right now is blue velvet with the gold buckle”) and Dries Van Noten “snow-washed” jeans. Very popular with cool young guys at the moment: tattoos. (If in doubt, head to Kustom Tattoo in the 11th.) But “the thing is, French guys have scrawny bodies, so there’s not a lot of room to put the tattoos.”
