Theirs is a love story unique to New York, a modern-day fairy tale of romance and real estate that began with Richard, a hedge fund manager, hunting for the perfect townhouse. He asked his secretary to find him a broker and she chose Dorinda both for her unusual name and an online photo that made her look “kind.” During the couple’s third go-see, they found themselves seated in a stranger’s kitchen, “babbling about everything—except the house.” Says Dorinda, “He made me laugh, and I walked home thinking, I like this guy, but he’s a client.” Still, she agreed to have dinner with him, and ten months later, Richard proposed at Lexington Bar and Books, the site of their first date. The couple now resides in the townhouse Dorinda found for Richard, a happily-ever-after, indeed—but, Dorinda admits, “If I knew I was going to live in this house, I would’ve pushed for the one on 81st Street.”
