Loft Reception

Ellie Hawke & Mike Ware
Splashlight Studios
June 24, 2006

There was never an ‘aha’ moment,” says Ellie, about when she and Mike knew they were meant to be together. “It was more of a realization that we couldn’t imagine our lives apart.” This is no newlywed exaggeration, considering that the couple dated for eleven years before Mike proposed at Ellie’s family’s Georgian Bay lake house. Nor was Ellie’s desire to keep the wedding planning mellow. “I’d heard horror stories about brides being completely consumed,” she says, “and I didn’t want to follow that path.” So she hired friend Matthew David as event planner; invited an intimate 115 guests so that she and Mike could “enjoy the evening, without the pressure of spending the entire time greeting people”; and even embraced the night’s sole mishap: “The limo never showed, so my dad and I took a taxi to Splashlight. It was actually a perfect New York moment—arriving at my wedding in a yellow cab.”
