Springtime Fête in the Country

Ali Dwyer & Philip Edwards
Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church and the Meadow Club, Southampton, Long Island
June 9, 2007

When Ali’s brother planned a skiing trip to Austria, she almost didn’t go. “I was living near Lake Tahoe at the time,” she says. Luckily, her brother persuaded her, and it was on that trip that she hit it off with Philip, who like Ali had grown up in New York. Four years later, on another trip to the same slopes, he proposed. “We were on the mountain when—poof!—all our friends vanished,” says Ali. “I turned around and he was down on one knee.” The couple skied off to celebrate with oysters and Champagne, then “waltzed in our ski boots.” Back home, they booked the Meadow Club (where only members can wed) for a 270-person reception decorated in the club’s green-and-white palette. In keeping with the color scheme, Philip decided at the last minute to trade his navy blazer for a head-to-toe white suit and to put his groomsmen (and himself) in matching lime-green socks—a total hit.
