Sarah Roemer & Anton Davis

Saint George’s Episcopal Church and the W New York—Union Square

A nton and Sarah’s story began in 2008 after a chance encounter at the decidedly unromantic JetBlue terminal at JFK. “He said, ‘Excuse me, miss, I don’t know where you’re going, but I’ll go anywhere to take you out,’ ” Sarah laughs. “When I got home, I told my parents, ‘I just met the man I’m going to marry.’ ” The pair—Anton, 40, is an electrical engineer; Sarah, 36, a personal trainer—went on their first date a week later, two hours after they both landed back in New York (at their wedding, a tiny JetBlue airplane topped their cake). The ceremony took place at Saint George’s, where the couple’s bulldog, Mr. Biggs, trotted down the aisle with the rings in tow. Anton donned his signature bowler hat, while Sarah accented her gown with a birdcage veil and a thirties-style tassel necklace. They rode a white vintage Rolls-Royce to the W hotel, where tables were adorned with ivory and fuchsia orchids and guests nibbled on black-and-white cupcakes. After dinner, Anton took the mic to perform a rap declaring his love for his new bride (“It took me eight months to write it,” he says). The first half of their wedding dance was a demure waltz. The second half? A choreographed hip-hop routine to Lil’ Mo’s “4Ever.”

“I found the cupcake tier on eBay, painted it ivory, and finished it with ribbon from M&J Trimming. I did my own table decorations, too: I bought basic bouquets of orchids and supplemented them with fake flowers. They looked so real, no one knew!”
