I hate checking a bag, mostly because of a bad experience with a regional Italian carrier that lost mine on the way to a wedding in Copenhagen a few years ago.Gone were my silk dress and strappy sandals; one last-minute trip to H&M later, and I’d sworn off theluggagebelt for life. Now that Apple has announced it will integrate its AirTags with the customer service at more than 15 airlines, though, I’m reconsidering my options. Especially as AirTags are 30 percent off right now on Amazon and at big-box stores, bringing the price for a four-pack down to $70 from $100.
According to a recent press release,Apple has partnered with most of the major airlines that I can name off the top of my head, from United and Delta to Aer Lingus and Qantas, and rollout will be complete early next year. AirTag users will be able to generate a unique luggage-tracking link that’s shared with their chosen carrier and linked to their flight data, allowing them to see where their bags are at any given time. You can alreadysort ofdo this on your own by packing an AirTag and relying on your bag’s proximity to random iPhones in order to track its journey, and the new feature will presumably streamline things. But, of course, the absolute safest way to keep an eye on your luggage is still to travelcarry-on only.
