We write about lamps a lot on the Secret Strategist Substack and found Flos’ recently launched design by Erwan Bouroullec to be quite compelling. It’s made from a paperlike polyethylene sheet that you attach to the light fixture with a magnetic button. The shade is meant to be shaped by hand — crumpled, smoothed, or otherwise manipulated — however you wish. The resulting effect is a sculpture-as-light that emits a diffused glow, our favorite kind. (It reminds me of the wall Akari that designer Pali Xisto Cornelsen has in his living room.)
It’s available in three sizes — with one, two, or three magnetic buttons — and can be used alone or installed together. We’ve partnered with Flos to to give one Secret Strategist reader the single-button Maap W1 Wall Lamp, which measures about five by five feet before shaping.
