When it comes to online shopping, there are some products you should buyonlywhen they go on sale, even if that means holding out for a holiday or other big sales moment, like the quickly approachingPrime Day.Water flossers, cordless vacuums, viral beauty products, and offseason clothing are a few good examples, but there are almost too many to count. So, the Strategist deals team narrowed down a list of the best items that go on sale so often that it’d be fiscally irresponsible to buy them at full price. And because Prime Day is less than two weeks away, we’ve made sure this list includes all of the best items that will be on sale and are actually worth buying.

You’ll find all of our recommendations below. We’ve explained when and how often the items go on sale, so you’ll know if you need to wait for a holiday or buy in the offseason. Many of these are just examples of items you can always find on sale, so if you’re buying something similar, our logic still applies.

To get the most from our list, click the heart icon to save anything you’d like to buy to your account. You can track all of your saves in yourNew Yorkaccount andsign up to receive email notificationswhen they go on sale — that way, you don’t miss any of the deals on Prime Day or any other time of year. And if you want even more sale-shopping tips and good deals, sign up for theStrategist Deal Freaks Daily, where we send the best of the internet’s sales every weekday.

Electric toothbrushes, water flossers, and other things for your teeth are often 30 percent off, but Prime Day has the steepest discounts.

Never buy a water flosser for less than 30 percent off, but if you wait for Prime Day the discounts typically reach 50 percent. The same is true of teeth-whitening kits, electric toothbrushes, and more of our bestdental-hygiene products— never buy them full price, and wait to buy them during Prime Day if you can.

Drugstore beauty goes on sale regularly throughout the year, and pricier beauty isalwaysdiscounted on Prime Day and Black Friday.

CosRx’s much-lovedsnail-mucinessence is almost always on sale for around $20 (down from $25). The only other times we see it for less are during sales events like Prime Day or one of Ulta’s semi-annual sales. The same goes for most drugstore holy grails like CeraVenight creams, Maybellineconcealers, and Neutrogenacleansers.

As for pricier beauty, it’s best to wait for Prime Day or Black Friday. The CliniqueBlack Honey Lipstick, LaneigeLip Sleeping Mask, and EltaMDUV Clear Sunscreenare just a few top sellers that get their lowest prices on sale holidays. Big-ticket hair tools from Shark, Dyson, and Drybar often go on sale (usually for around $100 off) pretty frequently, too, and they’ll all see big discounts on Prime Day.

Tech is often on sale for 20 percent off, and the discounts only get bigger during holidays.

Unless you’re holding out for the latest tech, you can often get it on sale. We see a variety of Beats headphones, older AirPods and iPads, and smart watches with discounts of around 20 to 30 percent off every day. And as is the case with most products, these items (and even other newer, trendier ones) get their best prices during sale holidays. Prime Day is a great time to buy (I suspect everything below will be discounted come June 23), but Black Friday is even better: Our tech writerJordan McMahonsays you won’t find a better deal on tech than during Cyber Week.

Cheaper vacuums are on sale every month. More expensive vacuums are on sale less often. All are worth waiting for.

The rarest and most fleeting vacuum deals are from pricier brands likeDysonandBissell, but it’s always worth waiting for those discounts — we’ll definitely see both brands go on sale for steep discounts on Prime Day. We’ve seen some Dyson models reach up to half off several times this year, and that’s the best sale you’ll find. Shark vacuums, which are already lower in price (but still great vacuums!) get price cuts pretty often — whether it’s a sale holiday or a random Tuesday — so never buy one unless it’s discountedat least20 percent.

Mattresses arealwayson sale, so never pay full price. And if you can wait for a holiday, do.

All year long, we keep track ofmattress salesduring which discounts consistently hover around 15 to 20 percent off. The deals get a little better during holiday weekends (usually by 5 to 10 percent), especially Black Friday and Presidents’ Day. Legacy and high-end brands will usually offer their best discounts during these two weekends. Prime Day isn’t as big of a time for mattress sales, at least not on Amazon, but we might see some brands run their own sales during Prime Day, so it’s worth checking to see if the mattress you’re eyeing goes on sale then.

Sleep writerAmelia Jerdenhas a bit of advice: “If you are locked in on a certain mattress and aren’t pressed to buy it immediately, monitor the price for a few weeks to see if it changes.” That way you can see if the “sale” that was being advertised is actually a rare offer or if it’s just the kind of discount they are typically running. “A good rule of thumb to tell if a sale is legit or not is how big the discount is,” she adds. “If you go on site and the mattresses are 50 to 60 percent off … that’s probably a fake.” Meaning if the discount is that high, that’s probably just the price they’re always charging for the mattress.

Some sheets and other bedding are regularly discounted; others only get discounted for major holidays.

Sales on bedding are very brand-dependent. At any given time, you can find perhaps a third of our favorite pieces on sale (from retailers likeBrooklinen,Crate & Barrel,The Company Store, andTarget). But many of our top picks are rarely, if ever, discounted. If you want bedding from brands likeQuince,Coyuchi,Parachute, andMorrow, you’ll have to wait for a holiday (and even then, they might not be having a sale).

However, plenty of perfectly fine bedding is regularly on sale at places likeAnthropologie,Urban Outfitters,West Elm,Zara Home, and the like. These are especially good places to check out arounddorm-roomshopping season (which is right now), as most will be discounting their bedding for college students.

Clothes from some of our favorite brands are on sale practically every day, especially offseason pieces.

Madewell,Gap,Old Navy,Anthropologie,J.Crew, and plenty more of our favorite fashion brands have perpetually filled sales bins. On any given day, it’s more likely they’ll be having a sale than not. The prices are best during holidays, like Black Friday or Labor Day, when the discounts will usually be sitewide or closer to half off. But if you’re willing to dig (and pay close attention to sizing), you canalwaysfind very good deals often for half off or more. And the outlet versions always have good options; we especially loveBanana Republic FactoryandGap Factoryif you need some starting points.

Because many deeply discounted fashion items are seasonal, they won’t be back in stock once they sell out. But some our favorite staple products — like Levi’sRibcage jeansand J.Crewbutton-down shirts— are regularly stocked, so you can grab them during random sales throughout the year or during holiday sales. And for Prime Day: Grab all your basics, including Gap tees, Levi’s jeans, and Madewell accessories.

Furniture is best bought on Labor Day, but you can find good deals throughout the year.

Labor Day is the most famous holiday for steep price cuts on furniture. Our favorite (less expensive) ergonomic office chair from Branch, for instance, usually gets discounts around 15 to 20 percent then — and that’s just about the only sale we see all year. (Though most brands will match, or come close to matching, their Labor Day deals for Black Friday.)

As for year-round discounts, plenty of sites have always-filled sales bins worth perusing.Articlekeeps its sale section up all year and runs pretty decent quarterly sales.Anthropologie’s furniture and décor is often double-discounted.Crate & BarrelandWest Elmboth always havesomesort of sale going on — you canalwaysget décor on sale there, and there are usually plenty of bigger items discounted, too. AndWayfairis perpetually on sale; do your due diligence there: Search an item online to make sure the original price Wayfair is listing isn’t inflated (sometimes its “deals” are just the price every other retailer is selling the item for).

Get super-seasonal items (like Christmas trees, swimsuits, winter boots and jackets) in the offseason for the steepest discounts.

The best time to get things on sale is when you don’t need them — a.k.a., in theoffseason.Artificial Christmas treesare deeply discounted in July (often half off or more),swimsuitsare super-on-sale in October (you can get a whole two-piece for less than the cost of a bottom), and boots and jackets are sometimes up to 70 percent off in the summer.

Since summer is here, the boot, coat, and winter-clothing deals are particularly alluring. I included a few below, and it’s always worth shopping for holiday décor year-round to get therealdeals.
