A couple weekends ago, I met my cousin for lunch in the West Village. It was a perfectly sunny, almost-80-degree day, so we sat outside, sipped ice coffees, and shared a chopped salad with charred shrimp and avocado. From our table, we watched friend group after friend group meet up on the street and greet each other with exclamations ofhowamazing!they all looked. It was the sound of the first few warm days in the city, when everyone unpacks their lighter layers from under-the-bed storage and dresses to go out — my favorite time of year.

A few days later, I went on a marathon shopping trip with my mom, hunting for a dress for her to wear to my wedding. It was another gloriously sunny day, and we walked from Nordstrom on 57th Street over to Madison Avenue, then 30 blocks uptown from there, stopping in St. John, Maria Rinaldi (where I saw a prettyexquisite aquamarine silk jacketthat’s still on my mind), Lafayette 148, and Carolina Herrera along the way. I’ve passed all of those stores many times before but had never stopped in. Our stroll-and-shop was a great reminder of how fun it is to visit stores you’ve never browsed in before — even if what’s inside isn’t exactly your taste or is out of your usual budget — and check out the clothes in person and the store’s decoration, even its scent, and chat with the sales associates about what’s on the racks. Here are some other things I’ve been eyeing recently at stores in my neighborhood — both ones I’ve recently gone into for the first time and old favorites.

A friend and I were doing an uptown wander the other weekend and went into the nightgown and robe storeBonne Nuit, where she pointed out the brand Priamo, maker of cotton nightgowns and pastel piped bathrobes. This nightgown in particular was appealing — I mean look at that lace yoke!

A kind of dumb thing I consistently enjoy buying is Sniffs decorative pocket tissues. These leopard ones are my favorites, and I recently bought thesevery kitschy “divalicious” onesat Zitomer. William Wayne also carries ones printed with fake $100 bills (especially fun to hand someone when they ask if you have a tissue).

I’ve been wanting a goldchaicharm to add to a chain where I currently have a turquoise Ten Thousand Things heart charm. This one is definitely a splurge, but I love the intricacy of the paisley in gold and the little diamonds at the top.

Here’s everything else I’ve seen recently …

I am determined not to get sunburned (or tan lines) before my wedding and have simultaneously laid down the gauntlet by planning a bachelorette party at the beach a few weeks ahead of the date. So, I’m trying to be responsible and find summer tops that have full upper-body coverage but are still breathable. This cotton poplin top from Brooke Callahan seems like a good contender. Last summer, I bought a pair of brown tie-side pants from the brand, which became my most worn of the summer, so I’m also considering a second pair in green.

Another contender. I bought a top at Emily Levine’s studio in Milan a few years ago and have worn it many times since for this exact reason: It’s extremely lightweight but still has full coverage. I like the big buttons and pleats on this one.

All of that said about coverage, I’d be kidding myself if I said I wasn’t going to start summer with a new bathing suit. J.Crew just released this light-blue eyelet one, which I’m considering. I hate when an underwire bathing-suit top doesn’t fit correctly, and this one comes in exact cup sizes — very helpful!

I’ve cycled through lots of aluminum-free deodorants (including theThai Crystal Deodorant Mist) and have found that they work well for about the first three months, then either stop working or take on a weird scent. Others have dyed the armpits of my white shirts … also not ideal. A few months ago, though, I bought this Susanne Kaufmann one largely because I liked the packaging, and have been so impressed! It has a nice, alpine-y scent, doesn’t sting on freshly shaven armpits, and actually seems to last all day.

I first read about the Spanish accessories line Sach in Nell Diamond’s newsletter, where she mentioned the brand’s choker necklaces. The pieces on its site are really lovely, with lots of small mirrored pieces and kind of organic-looking woven golds and silvers. I love this belt and could imagine wearing it over a dress, or maybe the Brooke Callahan tie pants, this summer.

There’s something about this particular shade of green — as Bennington Potters calls it “elements green” — that feels appealing to me. Both of these are in that shade, and I especially love the octagonal shape of the Levant Shop bowl, which I can picture filled up with clementines.

When we moved apartments over the winter, I somehow lost all of my workout clothes, so I’ve been trying to replenish that drawer. Everything from Aritzia’s Butter line has been fantastic — it’s soft and comfortable, stretchy but not restrictive, and looks just as good as new after it hang-dries.

With summer comes the perennial question of what sandals will work for walking 10,000 steps and then going out for dinner. I was sent a pair of these in gold last summer, and while they’re obviously flats, not sandals, they basically fit that bill thanks to the woven leather. I’m considering buying a pair in cream for this summer.
