Plaids, mauves, and oversize silhouettes: We are back with anothercomprehensive look at a new Uniqlo collection— this time the 2026 spring/summerUniqlo U collectionby co-artistic directors Christopher Lemaire and Sarah-Linh Tran, available as of this morning. Strategist senior writer Michael Zhao and I stopped by the showroom yesterday and tried on just about everything in the line, which includes blousy parkas, wide-leg cargos, and barrel sweatpants, all made in breezy materials and an earthy color palette that’s warm-weather ready. Surprisingly, some of themen’s stuffthat has unisex sizing worked on both Michael and me, which was delightful for me, considering he’s a foot taller than I am. The proportions are just very good. Here’s what we liked and what we’d pass on. If past Uniqlo capsule collections are any indication, this one will go fast, so plan accordingly.

[Editor’s note: Lauren is five-foot-two and typically wears a size small and is about a 26-inch waist in pants.]

Most of the women’s samples I tried on were a small, which is more or less my size, though I do find that Uniqlo runs a little big. I tried on this cotton-poly jacket in small and it was perfectly proportioned on me, especially since I have a short torso. The elastic on the back gave the jacket a flattering blousy look. It reminded me of a more elevated version of a Members Only jacket.

This all-poly jacket is resistant to light rain and has billowy, oversize proportions that I love. It has bungeed waist ties for cinching, which keep it from looking sloppy. I tried on the small, though I might size down to XS. As Michael mentions below, it definitely gave me Liam Gallagher vibes. This powdery light purple is very pretty in person.

The tailoring on this jacket is sharp and the size small fit me well but I don’t think this color suits me. I would go with the black. I also don’t love that it’s polyester, but it’s a nice spring blazer to throw on — one that you don’t have to be too precious with.

I threw this on at the showroom to have a top to wear with everything else I was trying, but I actually really liked its shape. I’m pretty sure I am wearing a size small, but I might actually size up to a medium to achieve the looser, more casual look of this model. It reminded me of theMaryam Nassir Zadeh for J.CrewT-shirt that I own (and love) in a very similar color. I only wished it were shorter.

I wanted to like these pants, but they just didn’t do it for me. Perhaps they were too big and long — an XS might have fit better. I love the idea of balloon-y pants, but the pleated waist didn’t make sense with theÜber-casual hem. The material was also maybe a tad too thin and lightweight because I felt like they were static-clinging to my legs and getting twisted.

As Michael says below, I prefer the JW Anderson Uniqlo jeans to these, but they actually fit me like a glove in the seat thanks to darting in the back. I would maybe size up in these. This blue wash is neither here nor there for me. (Unlike Michael, I love my Uniqlo U-curved jeans from 2019 and still wear them.)

I must confess that I don’t actually like most Airism shirts. (And didn’t much care for thelong-sleeve versionin this collection.) The slick material wicks and cools quite effectively, but its thickness weighs on my skin, creating the illusion of warmth. But I actually really enjoyed it in this sized-down tank top (wearing an S, but usually an M). It comfortably stretched to conform to my torso without feeling restrictive, and the black looked darker than any natural fabric I’ve come across.

There’s something funky going on with this knit polo’s collar that isn’t immediately clear from the product photos. The plackets that would’ve supported the buttons have been intentionally inverted to pop out from the wearer’s chest and neck. I still haven’t decided how I feel about it, but I did like the dusty purple colorway. (I’m wearing a small but would usually opt for a large.)

If you’re considering getting yet another camp-collar shirt this summer, might I suggest something like this instead? I’m wearing a medium here, and I liked how it fit. Notably, it has a boxy cut that isn’tcropped, which is harder to find than you’d think. The 100 percent cotton fabric has a stiff yet airy texture that won’t stick to sweaty skin on muggy days.

The long-sleeve version of the same silhouette is made from a fascinating natural fiber blend of cotton, lyocell, and linen that feels similarly stiff, yet airy — although I think it should soften with washing over time. The medium felt true to size (flatteringly oversize), and it would make a great evening layer for summer vacations.

I liked this crewneck cotton sweater. It’s called brown in the product listing, but it looks more purple in person. Again, this is a small, but I actually thought the fit was pretty on point — even the sleeves weren’t too short. The knit is much looser and slinkier than you’d expect from the pictures, so it stretches quite a bit. I think the medium’s additional length would’ve felt nice, but the subtly cropped look goes well with the wide pants.

This cream-colored, crinkled polyester blouson makes me feel like one of those Italian grandpas who spends his days watching a construction site come to life. I liked how it looked, but I prefer my lightweight jackets to be made of cotton. The purple color is nice. It evokes an ash-covered eggplant.

Michael:Wearing this parka made me feel like Liam Gallagher (complimentary). I’m wearing a medium here, which is appropriately oversize, but you could size down for a closer fit. Would make a nice knockaround outer layer for a music festival.

Lauren:I’m shocked this medium jacket looked as good as it did on me, though I would size down to an XS.

Michael:The boxy knee-length fit of these pleated shorts reminds me of the linen-blendclimbing shortsfrom a few years ago, but the additional fabric from the pleat helps them move more freely. As of now, I plan to live in these shorts all summer long.

Lauren:These men’s shorts in small were fun, too. I would have gone with an XS in black to avoid looking like a UPS delivery person, but they were not bad at all.

I can’t get enough of double-pleated pants as of late, and these cotton-nylon blended ones are no exception. The material is light and crispy, like poplin shirting, and holds the silhouette nicely from all angles. I’m wearing a 30 in the above photos but would’ve preferred the 31, with a slightly longer inseam to get a bit of a break on my shoes.

Michael:These military-inspired cargos were a standout from the collection, and I suspect they will sell out quickly. I’m almost a foot taller than Lauren, yet we both managed to find a flattering fit in the same size (S). The cotton-recycled nylon-blend fabric is crisp, light, and breathable. Drawstrings at the hem and waist help dial in the fit without a belt.

Lauren:I tried on these pants in black in a size small, and they looked amazing (though long). I think I would size down to an XS for a better fit and hopefully shorter length. They’re probably my favorite item in the entire collection. Strategist deputy editor Simone Kitchens said they were reminiscent of something Kim Kardashian would wear and, honestly, I’ll take it.

Despite their relaxed cut and 100 percent cotton-terry construction, these barrel sweatpants manage to look surprisingly tidy from every angle. (I actually liked how they paired with theseBeckett & Simonon Tyrolean derbies.) This may be due in part to the additional structure provided by the metal-zipper fly, which I’ve never otherwise seen on a pair of sweats. It’s making me question my blanket ban on sweatpants outside the home.

Denim has never been a highlight of the U collection, and I don’t think that’s about to change with the wide tapered jean. I am typically a 30 and I tried on the ecru in a 29 and the black in a 33. The 29 was too tight in the seat (even though Uniqlo’s sizing tool suggests I’m a 28), and the 33 actually fit pretty well with a belt. But I would personally opt for the longer 32-inch inseam onJW Andersen x Uniqlo wide jeansif you’re looking for a jean of this style.
