The latest collaboration betweenUniqloand Northern Irish–born designer JW Anderson (lately of Dior), who has been working with the Japanese brand since 2017, dropped this morning. My fellow Strategist senior writer Michael Zhao and I got an early look at some key pieces. Below, here’s everything we tried on — with commentary and photos. For reference, I am wearing a women’s sample size small (I’m five-two), while Michael is wearing a men’s sample size medium (he’s six-two). Things are selling out quickly, so if you see something you like, you may want to hurry.

This is my favorite item among the ones I tried on. It has a roomy, boxy fit with a length right below my hips. It’s padded without being bulky, and it feels quite cozy — perfect for fall and into early winter. Other nice touches include the corduroy collar and cuffs, plus the removable hood with a checked lining. It’s currently sold out in all colors; you can sign up to be notified when more become available.

I actually love these jeans. I tried a 26x31, and while I might have sized down to a 25-inch waist, I liked how I could wear these lower on my hips. I’m five-two, but the 31-inch inseam wasn’t too bad when I cuffed them ever so slightly. They’re made of 100 percent cotton and have a beautiful fade (I have the 65 blue colorway) and roomy straight leg.

A Toteme-style cape that comes in a rich navy and a light grayish-brown. It has a good feltlike handfeel despite being mostly polyester (blended with wool and rayon). The contrast stitching is a nice touch. It sort of just drapes without much else going for it in terms of shape, but if you’re looking for something lightweight and versatile, it’s a decent option.

This is a very cozy, soft sweater, like all of Uniqlo’s knits. It’s an acrylic blend but feels nice and hefty. I like the boxy, slightly cropped cut, but the Fair Isle pattern, at least in the beige colorway, looks a little frumpy. I would have gone for the darker olive color, but that one’s sold out.

I might have needed to size down to an extra small, but this didn’t work on me. The sleeves were a little long, and the cut was maybe too boxy? I also thought the fabric was a little shiny for an oxford shirt because it’s a cotton-rayon blend.

This coat is very warm and feels like a modern update of a vintage J.Crew barn coat. The cotton lining is cozy, and the nylon-cotton shell material feels hard-wearing but not stiff, and has a nice subtle sheen. No need to size up here for a roomy fit.

The cords have a roomy fit that can stand out with a tee or take a supporting role to a statement top. The integrated belt is a cool detail, and the front patch pockets are capacious. The material is not the most substantial, and based on previous experience with corduroy in this price range, I predict it may not fade in an aesthetic way.

I have them in a medium, and that’s good for an oversize fit, which can be cinched down in the waist by a belt. The model on the site is wearing a large, which would also work, but that would be more of a parachute-pant-type look.

The 100 percent cotton denim in these jeans feels a cut above Uniqlo’s other jeans, and the light-blue fade is really well executed. (My friend who’s super into menswear asked if they were 3sixteen jeans when I sent him a picture; that’s how good the fade is.) I was not as impressed with the gray when I checked them out in the store. I tried a 30x31, a slightly cropped fit on me, which isn’t bad (I normally wear 30x32). They still cover my ankles, but there’s no break. The cut is roomy without feeling frumpy. I can feel the denim against my glutes. It’s like an early-’90s-style fit.

I tried the oversize striped oxford in a large, which still fits well. I think it’s the way it’s intended to fit, but a medium could still provide enough drape to get an oversize look without feeling like I’m swimming in it. I like that the double pleats in the sleeve cuffs keep the arms tidy. The embroidered monogram is class, but it would be a fun nod if it were placed higher up, as many tailoring shops do. It’s currently visible only if the shirt is worn untucked, but it’s really quite long. I prefer it with a half-tuck so it still drapes over the waist.

I have this in a medium but could size up for a drapey fit. I would personally opt for the red and blue for a more unique look, as the black and white looks a bit too much like more substantial-feeling vintage sweaters. The material is surprisingly soft for lambswool — I’d happily layer it over a T-shirt, which is not true of most non-merino sweaters I’ve owned.

This kind of mixed-material style isn’t for me, but it’s very cozy. I’d probably wear it without the hood. Again, true to size; medium serves me well.
