I own one Nordic Knotsrug. It’s the most beautiful rug. I chose the Grand inLeo, a sort of goldish-brown shade that manages to pick up light even on overcast days. I bought it during one of the brand’s infrequent sales but didn’t get the size I wanted because it was out of stockandthe price jumped up $500.

That’s amistakeI will never make again. I love everything about this rug, except its six-by-nine-ness. Get the biggest rug your space will allow.

Which means it might not be from Nordic Knots. Last year, I went on ahuntto look for alternatives. I found a pretty close dupe in the Rugs USA x Arvin Olano rug, but it has a slightly “speckled” effect. I kept researching but didn’t have to go far: A couple of months ago I came across this (also Rugs USA) rug collection by, of all people,Ashley Tisdale. The colors were really good. I ordered a blush one for my kid’s room and a brown one for the guest room, which doubles as an office. (Everyone, it seems, has thebrown NK Grandright now.) The Ashley Tisdale brown came off more eggplant-y in person, but I like it. Theredseems like a decent dupe for the NKbrick. And I went big: 9-by-12 for each.

The rugs are pricedlow(and are somehow always on sale), which allows you to spring for a giant size. It’ll feel a lot more … luxurious. And the colors are entirely solid. They do not glimmer in the exact same way as Nordic Knots’ rugs and the Grand will always win when it comes to softness, but you really could do worse than one of these 100 percent wool rugs. (Always check for that distinction; this collection is also Oeko-Tex certified and “tested for hundreds of harmful substances,” according to the product page.)

One thing to note: Both Ashley Tisdale rugs had a sort of “organic” wooly smell when I unwrapped them. The internet says new wool can have an earthy smell because of the natural lanolin in wool fibers. It didn’t smell chemically; it faded within a week.

And get a good rug pad. I order natural rubber ones fromRug Pads USA. A rug pad will add more plushness underfoot and make the whole situation feel a little more Nordic Knots–y.
