If you know a driver who’s tired of having to schlep to the gas station every time their tires need topping off, get them a Fanttik X8 Apex tire inflator. Whereas the previous generation of bulky and loud devices required a cigarette-lighter plug to function, the Fanttik has a built-in USB-C rechargeable battery so it can move unencumbered from wheel to wheel — no long power cord or delicate hose required. At 8 inches tall, 2.5 inches wide, and less than two pounds, it’s about the size of a tallboy can and only a bit heavier. It fits easily into any glove box or center console, so it’s ready to go whenever their car’s tire-pressure monitor is triggered. We recently had our first extended cold snap of the season, so I used the Fanttik to top up all the tires on both of our cars — as well as the two-wheeled wheelbarrow I was using to mulch our perennials for the winter. It happily inflated all 10 tires in rapid succession without overheating and still had a quarter of its 40-minute battery life left at the end.
The X8 Apex is best suited for inflating car tires. Still, with a maximum operating pressure of 150 PSI, the inflator also works on motorcycles and bikes (it includes a plastic Presta valve adapter). The device even comes with a screw-in needle for inflating sports balls. For full-size truck or SUV drivers (anything comparable to or larger than a Ford F-150), you’ll need to splurge on the bigger, more expensiveX9 Ultra. But for everyone else, the X8 Apex is a well-priced, highly effective gadget that is a helpful addition to anyone’s road-trip kit.
