I Tried All the Most Popular Pieces From Popflex

Ever since the Zip Cloud Hoodie came into my life, it has replaced almost all of my other crewnecks and hoodies. Of all the Popflex items I tried, it’s the one I wore most consistently — while working from home, while walking to the gym in the morning, and while hanging out with friends. It’s designed to be slightly cropped (it hits me right at my waist), with a stretchy ribbed hem. The thick fabric drapes nicely over the hem for a slouchy, oversize look that doesn’t completely hide the shape of your body. You can also wear the hoodie off one shoulder if it isn’t zipped up completely. Overall, the Zip Cloud Hoodie seems perfectly engineered to give you an easygoing and effortless look without being zhlubby or shapeless.

This bolero is kind of like the mini version of the Zip Cloud Hoodie. It’s designed to be slouchy, but it won’t make you look unkempt. When I’m wearing it, it covers my upper back, shoulders, and arms, which is perfect for a chilly morning walk or when it’s slightly too air-conditioned inside for short sleeves. I love that the sleeves have thumbholes, which are comfy and help the bolero stay on your body. There are small pockets on the inside near the armpits that are large enough to fit my phone, but I haven’t used them much; the fabric isn’t very heavy and there is no closure. My phone fell out of one of these pockets when I bent over, so I wouldn’t recommend using them to store anything valuable.

I have a similar fitted zip-up jacket that I wear in the fall and winter on hikes and under loose coats. (It’s thrifted — I can’t confirm the brand). This Popflex version is like mine on steroids. It hassomany features: a detachable hood, thumbholes, a wristwatch opening, two zippered side pockets, one inner hidden pocket, and even built-in mittens. But it doesn’t look too busy or complicated. The jacket has a snug fit, which can work over a tank top or sports bra. In the cooler months, I think it would layer well under a loose coat. I wore this jacket on morning walks to the gym, and it made me feel decently put together, even though I was tired and hadn’t showered. I didn’t need the hood or mittens in the summer — the mittens are just fabric pockets on the sleeve that flip up over your hands — but I imagine they would be useful in the winter.

These are close to my Platonic ideal of leggings. I prefer compressiveathletic leggingsto the simple cotton style I wore as a kid. But I don’t always love the shiny look and too-tight feel of athletic leggings when I want to wear them in casual settings, like a road trip or movie night with friends. The Supersculpt leggings are the best of both worlds. They are compressive enough to wear while working out without the awful sag I associate withcotton leggings, but are matte and plain enough you can easily pair them with a T-shirt or sweatshirt. Crucially, they’re notsotight that they’re uncomfortable for chilling. The leggings have pockets, which I know isn’t a new invention, but I’m always reminded of how great pockets are in leggings. And these pockets have a slightly thicker fold-over seam that makes it easy to slide your phone and AirPods in without futzing around to make them fit. I tested these leggings on a hike, at multiple yoga and Pilates classes, on walks, and for casual wear. In every situation, I was pleased with them. The next time I need leggings, I can almost guarantee I’ll buy another pair of these ones.

These leggings are very similar to the SuperSculpt ones — they are made from the same fabric, have a similar fit, and also have the same excellent pockets — but with a flared leg and crisscross waistband. I like them for the most part, but I prefer the standard waistband of the SuperSculpt leggings over the crisscross variant, which is supposed to give you a more defined waist. This is effective, but I don’t bare enough of my midriff for it to be noticeable. When worn with a longer shirt covering the waistband, the crisscross becomes additional material that makes the leggings less comfortable. However, if you do like to wear crop tops or just a sports bra while working out, I think you’ll be happy with these. I wore them to multiple yoga and Pilates classes and casually at home, and they were about as comfortable as the Supersculpt leggings. The flared leg looks good for more casual wear. I also like the piping details on the waistband (but again, if you wear a longer top, it won’t be noticeable).

Ever since I started working from home, I’ve become obsessed with comfortable pants that look halfway decent when you leave the house. That’s what I was hoping for in the Perfect Plane Pants, and I think they delivered. They’re essentiallysweatpantswith a high waist and wide legs, but the fabric is very thick and feels luxe compared to most other sweats. Some additional details — pin-tuck seams down the front and small slits at the ankles — give the pants a more elevated look than my favorite comfylounge pants. I also like the zippered back pockets, which I imagine would be handyif I were traveling. Because of the fabric’s weight, these aren’t ideal pants for warm weather, so I mostly wore them inside during the peak of summer. I certainly felt more put together than I typically would in sweats and even got a compliment from my mother-in-law when I ran errands in them. My only complaint is they run a little long on me — I’m about five-foot-five and have the regular length, which is listed as best for people five-four to five-seven. My legs are somewhat short, so I probably would’ve been better off with the petite length, which is listed as best for those five-foot-one to five-foot-three.

If you’re familiar with Popflex, it’s likely because this skort was made famous byTaylor Swift. I don’t typically wear athletic skirts, but I couldn’tnottry Popflex’s best-known design. The Pirouette Skort is basically a mesh skirt layered over bike shorts. The mesh is pretty see-through, so it doesn’t offer the same coverage as a traditional athletic skirt. But it is a really fun piece of clothing to wear. The skirt is so swishy that it made me want to twirl around. I mostly wore this skirt at home and while running errands and found it very comfortable. I’m not sure that I’d personally wear it for an actual workout, but I think it would be great for dancing or going to amusic festival. It’s more visually interesting than a typical athletic skirt, but it has all the comfort of wearing bike shorts — and it has pockets.

I prefer to exercise in tank tops, especially during activities like yoga. I was particularly interested in the Audrey Tank because the cut makes it look more like a top you’d wear out than to the gym. I wore it to yoga and Pilates, casually at home, and on hikes. It’s extremely comfortable: fitted without being too tight. I like that it has a built-in bra (with removable cup pads); I don’t have an especially large chest, so I appreciate not having to layer up. If you’re someone with a larger bust, I’m not sure it would provide adequate support for a higher-impact workout. But the cut and fabric still make it an excellent workout top.

Popflex’s Perfect Tee fits loosely and has a slightly cropped cut — not so short that it reads as a crop top, but short enough that it hits right at the waist of high-rise pants. Because it’s made of rayon and spandex, the shirt definitely reads as athleticwear, but it can also be worn in casual settings. I would definitely wear it on a walk or lowkey hike. I found it too loose for my taste during yoga (the hem flopped down and hit me in the face during downward dog), and the short length means your stomach will show if you raise your arms. Depending on your comfort level, it may not be ideal for all types of workouts.

Because of the warm weather while I was testing these products, I didn’t get a chance to wear this top out of the house. I can definitely see myself reaching for it when the weather cools. The fabric is very soft and stretchy, and like the Audrey Tank, the shirt is fitted without being too tight. I like that it has thumbholes and that it can be worn two ways for a lower or higher neckline — wearing the shirt “backward” will give you the latter.

This sports bra matches the flared leggings above. With the similar contrast piping, they make a nice set. I ended up wearing it underneath other tops, and as a sports bra, I think it works just fine. The neckline is a little lower than I typically wear to work out, but the fabric is smooth and the fit is otherwise comfortable. I wouldn’t choose it as a sports bra for a high-impact workout, but if you like to wear just a sports bra for lighter workouts, it’s a cute and decently functional option.

The Zip Superbra is meant to providea lotof support. The bra itself has two layers: a main bra with adjustable straps and a mesh bra layered over with a racerback. I like the layered look, but it does make putting on the bra slightly confusing, because there is so much fabric and multiple straps. The front of the bra has a zipper and a hidden hook-and-eye closure to keep it secure. I tried the Zip Superbra in a large but likely should have sized down to a medium. It fit, but I didn’t feel as compressed and secure as I would have expected from such a heavy-duty sports bra. I wore this to lift weights at the gym, and while it was perfectly fine, I don’t think I’ll wear it again. In the right size, it could be a winner for high-impact workouts. There is also a version of thissports bra without the zipper, if you prefer a pullover style.

This dress is essentially a bodysuit with a dress layered over it. The inner bodysuit has a built-in sports bra, and the shorts fit just like the Pirouette Skort (including pockets on each leg). The dress is made from a windbreakerlike fabric that lies smoothly over the bodysuit, which I like because it doesn’t show every lump and bump on your body through the fabric. The skirt has a small slit, which is cute and keeps the skirt from feeling restrained if you are doing athletic activities. I wore it on a group bike ride and got lots of compliments on it. I wasn’t worried about futzing with it or anything riding up, since the straps are adjustable and the built-in shorts prevent any fear of flashing someone. I was surprised how much I liked this dress, since I don’t typically wear athletic dresses. It leans a little too athleisure for me to want to wear it out to dinner or a concert, but I think it’s great for activities like walking or biking.

I wholeheartedly embraced the 2010s jumpsuit trend when I was in college. I still wear them occasionally, so I was curious to try Popflex’s take. Most of the pieces I tried were athleticwear (or at least athleisure), but this jumpsuit falls into Popflex’s more casualwear category. The rayon-blend fabric is flowy and lightweight, so this was perfectly comfortable to wear on a summer day. I like that the top is a bit more fitted with a built-in shelf bra, and the pants are very loose and flowy. The jumpsuit has pockets, but because the fabric is so stretchy, putting anything moderately heavy (like my phone) in them weighed the pockets down so much that they looked weird and felt uncomfortable. I also ran into the same problem with the length as I did with the Perfect Plane Pants — even though I got the regular length and fall in the designated height range (five-foot-four to five-foot-seven), the pants dragged on the ground. Still, I would absolutely wear this jumpsuit again — with a pair of platform shoes.

I didn’t end up finding a good time to wear this dress out of the house, but I wanted to include it here since it’s very nice looking and comfortable. I love the sweetheart neckline paired with the long sleeves and open back. The skirt is short but has built-in shorts (with pockets, as always). This dress definitely feels like athleisure due to the fabric, but it looks a little more fashion-y than some of the other athletic dresses Popflex offers. I can’t wait to find a place to wear it since it is so charming.
