Welcome to Coat Week on the Strategist, where we’re asking everyone — from New Yorkers to people living in the coldest parts of the U.S. — about their favorite coats and trying out every puffer we can. For more, head over to ourCoat Week hub.
If you’re so inclined, it’s easier than ever to match yourcoat with your dog’s. Last year, Aritzia relaunched itsRuff Pufffor dogs — essentially a canine-size Super Puff coat — and Barbour, Carhartt,Ralph Lauren, and evenMonclerall made mini-and-me versions of their popular human styles for dogs, too. “It feels like such a fun, special way for us to connect even more,” says Abbode founder Abby Price, who owns multiple matching coats with her dog, Rooni, and adds that he “feels like my human son, especially when we’re matching.” While the Ruff Puff was a popular choice by several of the dog owners I spoke to, I uncovered a few other winter-weather options for youandFido, from L.L.Bean to Little Beast to Rachel Antonoff. (Just imagine the holiday-card photos!)

“I’ve always loved Aritzia’sSuper Puffsand already owned quite a few of them, so getting Tato a matchingSuper Ruff Pufffelt like the perfect excuse for me to add another one to my collection. Matching with him is also such a fun way to show our bond. I would definitely recommend this matching set to all dogs and their owners. Something to keep in mind is that the Ruff Puff runs a bit large, so I’d recommend sizing down, while the Super Puff fits true to size. The Ruff Puff is polyester filled instead of down filled, like the Super Puff, but both are comfy, warm, and made with water-repellent fabric; perfect for the rainy weather we get here in Vancouver. I also love that they’re lightweight yet super-cozy.”

“We love our matching Carhartt coats because they’re classic and cozy but still have that effortlessly cool vibe. My pup is in a small, I’m in a large for an oversize look, and we wear them everywhere — from coffee runs to hot-girl walks. They’ve basically become our fall uniform.”

“Ellie and I can’t recommend theAritzia Super PuffandSuper Ruff Puffcoats enough. They look super-chic and keep us cozy on our long winter walks. Both are very lightweight but still really warm, which is perfect for cold days. Ellie’s coat is quick and simple to put on, which makes leaving the house way easier. We always get so many compliments when we’re out matching.”

“I just love my dog Rooni more than anything in the world, and it genuinely makes me so happy when we match. He actually loves clothes; he’ll literally jump into his sweaters and strut around with a pep in his step whenever he’s wearing a jacket or sweater. I found these matching coats through my brand’s collaboration with L.L.Bean last year, which centered on its field coat. The team gifted me mine during that time, and when we partnered again this fall, I spotted the matching version on its site while looking for inspiration for our campaign. I immediately knew I had to get one for Rooni, too, since I already love wearing mine. I’ve had my jacket for about a year now and Rooni’s for a few months. Rooni is wearing a size medium and weighs around 17 pounds. The jackets aren’t the cheapest, but they’re absolutely worth it.”

“I first found Rooni’spolka-dot jacketon Little Beast’s Instagram and bought it the moment it dropped — I loved that it’s reversible, and the black-with-white side feels a little more masculine. A few months later, while shopping upstate, I came across my own jacket atCapital Vintageand immediately thought of Rooni’s. It felt like the perfect matching moment. We’ve each had our jackets for about three months now. His coat fits really well and has a waterproof lining, so I always put it on him when it rains. I also love that there’s a hole for his harness, since we prefer that over a collar. He’s wearing a size medium, and I definitely think the price is worth it for the quality and design.”

[Editor’s note: Price’s polka-dot jacket is vintage, but we’ve linked a similar option above. And the Little Beast dog jacket is sold out in black-and-white polka dots, but you can sign up for restock notifications on theproduct page.]

“It’s very hard to find outfits for big dogs; everything is always so much easier for the little ones! I spend a lot of time sourcing pieces in Rio’s size, and over time I’ve found a few go-to websites that reliably stock XXL dog fits. Bondir is definitely my favorite place to shop for Rio’s coats, especially for large dogs. The quality holds up, the designs photograph beautifully, and they actually fit him properly around his chest, which is usually the hardest part.”

“For my own matching coats, I usually shop at ASOS, Zara, or Fashion Nova; they always seem to have pieces that match Rio’s looks the closest. I’ve even made some of his outfits myself when I can’t find the right ones, so finding styles that coordinate with mine always feels like a win.”

“My dog, Poppy, and I love these matching coats — they’ve been absolute lifesavers for staying warm and dry during Wisconsin winters. Both come in a variety of colors, so you can choose what suits you and your pup best (we’re partial to olive green). I especially love that Poppy’s coat has a button closure; it’s much easier to fasten than a zipper, especially when she’s eager to head out the door for a walk. They’ve both held up well over time, and they’ll be in our closet for years to come.”
