I have never considered myself ahandy person. I often would enlist a friend to help me put furniture together and never put up shelves myself out of fear that I wouldn’t screw them in tightly enough and they’d collapse and let my favorite fragile décor shatter to pieces. DIY projects were out of the question. All of that changed when I got an electric screwdriver. Smaller and less intimidating than adrill— which I use only when absolutely necessary — this cordless tool is powerful enough to get most hanging and building tasks done quickly.
I first discovered an electric screwdriver at a local Harbor Freight hardware store. I had seen some trending on TikTok and wanted to know if a $10 model could compare to the more expensive ones. The built-in LED light was dim and the magnetic chuck didn’t always catch the included quarter-inch bits on the first try when I swapped them, but the screwdriver was able to work in forward and reverse to add and remove screws relatively quickly. When I use any new tool, I try to find the best version of it, and the Warrior was not it. After researching some more technologically advanced, innovatively designed, and well-reviewed models, I ending up testing five different electric screwdrivers over the course of six months — hanging art, building furniture, and tightening existing screws. I was able to do all of the basic tasks — like putting a screw into a wall tightly and securely without needing to drill a pilot hole and tightening the hinge on a kitchen cupboard in seconds — easily and quickly with all of the electric screwdrivers I tried. There were some that were more powerful, had multiple torque settings, brighter lighting, or were more aesthetically pleasing, but ultimately all of them worked well. Below, you’ll find my top three.

This pocket-size cordless screwdriver can tackle any screw or Allen wrench hex socket that life throws at you. When precision is important, a mini yet mighty screwdriver is what you need. This model can handle the smallest jobs and screws for camera, computer, gaming console, and phone repairs with five torque settings for delicate jobs. Its sleek design includes a pop-up mechanism for the screwdriver base in the center — just push and click to retrieve or put away the slim 5.5-by-0.8-inch cylinder. The 50 strong steel bits (5/32-inch hex size) include some specialty accessories, like a 1.78-inch-long hex 2.0 bit, a pry bar, and tweezers for help disassembling items for more advanced repairs and DIY projects.
Everything nests magnetically in the rotating storage compartment, which is very satisfying to spin around to find the right bit. There is also a gradient indicator bar that shows the torque gear and direction (screwing in or out) on the side. The screwdriver has a speed of 270 rpm and the battery is certified to last up to 550 screws. The Hoto PixelDrive is beautifully designed and has convenient and clever features, like a display that shows torque levels and battery charge and a dial to adjust power. It has six torque settings and two speeds: Half-press the button for 80 rpm precision work, and full-press for 200 rpm. I mostly used it for driving screws into drywall on the higher speed but appreciate that smaller tasks can be handled delicately. The 30 bits are split differently than other models I tried, with 20 long bits and ten short bits in a triple-layered cylinder case that houses the screwdriver base and all of the bits (which are kept in place magnetically). The 2,000 mAh battery is much more powerful than that of the Fanttik models, but I did not ever have the battery run out on any of the models I tested so I can’t speak to how impactful the larger battery is in the long run. This screwdriver seemed like an extension of my recently retired, primo fixer-upper dad’s arm, so I gifted it to him. He said it was the nicest screwdriver he’d ever seen and he already had three projects in mind to use it for.
