If you’re themomof a die-hard Strategist reader, there’s a solid chance that at some point you’ve unwrapped — or come close to unwrapping — amakeup bag from the brand Eachy. It’s been one of our top-sellingMother’s Day giftsfor several years running, after appearing in multiplegift guides. However, no one on our staff has ever written much about it. So I decided to test one myself, to find what makes it such a consistent hit.

The bag is only available on Amazon and comes in medium and large sizes, plus a slew of colors. In addition to shades like orange, blue, pink, and cream, there are also versionsembroidered with an initial, embossed with awoven texture, or adorned with a daintybow. After some debating, I opted for dark red in the large because, well, I’m a high-maintenance girl. In addition to numerous toiletries and skin care, I usually travel with a full makeup routine:skin tint, mascara, eyeshadow palette, multiplemakeup brushes… you get the picture.

The bag arrived just in time to accompany me on a three-night trip to Boston. Because I was taking the Amtrak and didn’t need to worry about TSA restrictions, I was able to test its carrying capacity by packing full-size products rather than travel-size bottles. I had plenty of room to fit everything — in fact, I had room to spare, which led me to start frantically casting about for anything else I should bringjust in case.

The secret lies in the bag’s shape: It is long and rectangular, but zips diagonally so that it can open wide and lie flat on your bathroom counter. Everything has its place and you can see it all at a glance; there’s no need to pile products on top of each other and then be forced to go digging for your contact lenses. The compartments are also laid out very conveniently: There are two central partitions, one equipped with elastic bands and one with a transparent zipper pouch, and three inner pockets sewn into the sides of the case. I devoted one side to skin care and toiletries, the other side to makeup, and was very pleased with how easy it was to find what I needed — no rifling required. But it all zips into a neat, compact case that tucks snugly into aduffelor rollingluggage. And the outer material is a waterproof PU leather that’s very easy to wipe down and keep looking fresh.

As it turns out, Strategist lead editor Lauren Levy also bought a case for herself six months ago after she noticed a friend carrying one during a trip upstate. “I thought it was just so smart the way it opened completely flat so that it can sit really elegantly on any bathroom sink,” Levy told me. And even though she opted for the medium size, she still describes it as “sobig. This thing fits everything. I’ll pack my full size hair gel in there, toothbrushes, all manner of face creams, and even some makeup and it pretty much always zips without a problem.”

The best thing about the Eachy makeup case, though, is its price. “I honestly still can’t believe how cheap it is. Definitely a product that’s more expensive than it looks,” Levy says. A well-made, good-looking, and smartly-designed makeup organizer … for less than $25? Mom will definitely approve.
