I hate buying the same product twice, but I just got a second pair of Ray-Ban’s Mega Wayfarer sunglasses on sale for Prime Day because my previous pair broke. One of the lenses somehow got cracked, and the frame itself is noticeably scratched from when I accidentally stepped on them in an unrelated incident. When I asked a store associate whether they do repairs, I was told to order the lenses online, then bring them to the store. That was bad information because I could not find the lenses on the Ray-Ban website.
While the disused sunglasses sat in a drawer, I tried in vain to find a suitable replacement. I went back to my Celines, but they were still too loose even after I got them adjusted at my optometrist’s office. An old pair of cat-eye Miu Mius felt a little outdated. I was testing a pair of ’70s-ish Cubitts, the shape and color of which I loved, but they kept sliding down my face. Cheapies from Urban Outfitters and Uniqlo were cute, but they didn’t feel right. (As an Asian person with a low nose bridge, I have trouble with most plastic frames, which slide down my face.)
Then I saw that Ray-Bans were on sale for Prime Day. My Mega Wayfarers were significantly discounted, too. Unlike the Original Wayfarer Classics, which I bought many years ago and lost, these have a more oversize look, wider arms, and two dots on either side rather than the signature dash. They look more fashion-y than the classic style, and I always get compliments on them. (Guys like them, too.) They also just work on my face. They fit snugly without being too tight, actually sit on my nose and not my cheekbones, and stay in place. After years of searching for the perfect sunglasses, I hadn’t realized that I had already found them. And now they’re on sale for 28 percent off for Prime Day, which is a slightly bigger discount than the sale running on the Ray-Ban website (and a slightly deeper discount than when I bought them yesterday).

This time, I actually bought the low-bridge Asian fit just to see if the fit would be even better — and it is. The sale on these is not quite as good, but they came with a bonus DIY repair kit.
