Big holiday markets like Union Square’s still draw crowds, but now smaller, ever more niche ones are taking over gallery spaces and empty storefronts. For shoppers seeking Austrian jackets and Venetianfriulaneshoes,Holiday on Madison(804 Madison Ave.; through 12/20) carries items never before available in the U.S. Also uptown,Susan Alexandra(1088 Madison Ave.; through 12/23) offers martini menorahs and ceramic spoons by Janie Korn, and theSociety of Illustrators’ Holiday Craft Fair(128 E. 63rd St.; 12/6) will return with marbled paper from Mount Cornwall Bindery.Not-a-Normal Holiday Show(100 W. 33rd St.; 12/5–7, 12/12–14) will set up in Manhattan Mall with over 300 vintage sellers, artists, and designers.

Field + Supply(601 W. 26th St.; 12/6–7), a Hudson Valley fair, will open its first market in the city, and the debut ofChinatown Holiday Market(200 Canal St., second fl.; through 12/21) features 35 vendors, including Chop Suey Club. East Village restaurantPangea(178 SecondAve.; from 12/6) will offer three Saturdays of shopping with pieces from local artists — such as Elizabeth Saloka, known for her painted rocks — curated by Jody Morlock.Art Bodega(209 E. 3rd St.; through 12/31)stocks works by David Shrigley, Rachel Hayden, and Christy Powers.

Over in Tribeca, shoppers can find homewares from vendors selected by Dimes’Sabrina De SousaandArley Marks(102 Franklin St., third fl.; 12/7), and at Isabel Sullivan Gallery,Onni — Art & Design Holiday Market(39 Lispenard St.; 12/6–30) will have sculptural clocks, textiles, and lamps. Maira Kalman and her son, Alex, will set up shop with embroidered textiles plus minimalist watches fromM&Co(368 Broadway, Studio No. 512; 12/13).

Across the river isMaum Market(33 35th St., second fl., Sunset Park; 12/13) with goods from Asian-owned small businesses. AtSorbara’s(326 Wythe Ave., Williamsburg; 12/18–21), Spiral Haus will sell silver-plated serving trays and other modernist objets. Brooklyn art collectiveArtmageddon(Sycamore Bar + Flowershop and Rusty Nail; 12/2, 12/11, 12/15) will host three holiday markets with tarot readings and 3-D-printed toys. And atLittle Big Holiday Market(990 Metropolitan Ave., East Williamsburg; 12/14), shoppers can buy one-off ceramics from tattoo artist Vicky, a.k.a. @jon_parmesan. Those looking for a more permanent holiday memento can get a tattoo by Amit Ben-Baruch atDemolición’s (943 Metropolitan Ave., East Williamsburg; 12/20) one-day pop-up.
