Birkenstockhas branched out from clogs to …nail polish. While this launch may seem a bit out of left field, the German footwear company has been dipping its toe into the world of beauty over the last year and a half with several foot- and body-care products, including lotions, oils, and exfoliators. The nail-polish line includes five colors — red, eggshell, light rose, crocus, and surf green — as well as a combination top and base coat and a remover. The line is also plant-based, if you care about that kind of thing.

I tried it out at a brand event at Sundays nail salon in Soho. While I quite liked the color (a kind of “365 red” — a classic crimson that could be worn through all seasons, since it doesn’t skew too cool- or warm-toned), I did find the formula to be very slow-drying. In fact, after about 15 minutes with two fans aimed directly at my nails, the polish was still slightly tacky. I figured it would continue to dry as I went about my day, but hours later, it smudged. The brand does recommend keeping the layers very thin when applying, and it’s possible my nail technician had a slightly heavy hand, which could explain the issues I had with the finish.

The fun bit is that two of the shades — crocus, which is a light lilac, and the surf green, which is basically seafoam — are perfect matches to two colors found in the brand’s spring sandal collection, so you could match your pedi to your Arizonas. Plus the brand is offering a few deals where you can get abottle of polish with a new pair of sandals(though those duos are not color-coordinating).
