Charli XCX Likes the Same Aluminum Suitcase As Us
A newly married Charli XCX was papped at Heathrow Airport over the weekend wearing her trademark dark sunglasses and wheeling two scratched-up aluminum suitcases that have definitely seen some things over the course of the Brat album cycle.
You’d be forgiven for assuming that Charli’s metal luggage comes from celebrity-beloved luxury travel brand Rimowa, but a visible logo reveals that her suitcases are actually made by Away. Another big tell is that Rimowa suitcases have vertical grooves in the metal, whereas the grooves on Away suitcases are horizontal. The assistant behind her also looks to be wheeling an Away polycarbonate checked suitcase in black, so I’m detecting some brand loyalty here.
Charli’s slightly more frugal luggage choice is Strategist approved. Away’s $645 carry-on ranks as our best overall aluminum suitcase because it has the same features as a $1,500 Rimowa for less than half the price. Those include a sturdy shell and clamp closing (no broken zippers to mend while on tour), as well as spinner wheels, a telescopic handle, and a built-in lock. Not to mention the ability to develop a pleasing patina of dents and stickers over time.
In other words, the suitcases are exactly what we’d recommend to any busy pop star who spends a lot of her time driving to the airport, the airport, the airport, the airport.
