It only took one dental hygienist (with a gift for metaphor) to tell me that not flossing is like mopping a floor you haven’t swept yet to convert me to a flosser for life. I have always wanted to use Cocolab’s Cocofloss. It comes in a bunch of flavors, has cute packaging, and is ourBest in Class pick. While it may seem a little ridiculous to call any floss “cool,” if there was one, it would be Cocolab. But here’s the problem: I could never get the thicker string through my teeth, which have, according to my aforementioned dental hygienist, extremely “tight contact.” My orthodontist from my teens did too good of a job with my braces, I guess.

I’ve been stuck using boring Oral-B Glide since. But Cocolab has finally fixed this problem with its new launch, Cocofloss Thin. It’s 30 percent thinner than its original floss and is designed specifically for people with tight contact or crowding. While it’s relatively thinner compared to the brand’s original Cocofloss, it’s still thicker than other flosses I’ve used. I got an early sample of the launch and, over the past three weeks of testing, my teeth have never been cleaner. Comparing Cocofloss to Oral-B Glide is like comparing a Swiffer to a Roborock: I was only slightly horrified by how much more gunk was on the Cocofloss after I finished my nightly hygiene routine. Because the floss is more textured than the average dental floss, made from polyester filaments and microcrystalline wax, it can pick up more debris and plaque. While I was a little worried it might get stuck, it slid easily into every crevice. My teeth felt squeaky clean, and my breath was fresher. I did forget my Cocofloss in my apartment on an overnight trip to my parents and had to use the Glide I stashed in my toiletries case. My gums, now used to the gentle caress of the soft Cocofloss, immediately started bleeding. Using regular floss now feels like trying to floss with sewing thread — completely ineffective and even a little painful. Me and my tight teeth will only be using Thins from now on.
