There are many instances of product placement inTheDevil Wears Prada 2— Diet Coke in the office cafeteria, so much Starbucks, and a whole Dior story line. But there are also a fair number of props that seem like they were genuinely picked by the set designers because of what they say about the characters who are wearing or using them in any given scene. Those little details are what make a movie likeTheDevil Wears Pradaso interesting, whether it’s the prayer-bead bracelets worn by Stanley Tucci’s character, Nigel, or the silksleep maskAnne Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs, wears to bed in her Milan hotel. So to ID all the non-sponsored products I could, I went to an early screening of the movie in Brooklyn and took extensive notes. Below is a list of all the non-designer clothing,office supplies, apartment décor, beauty products, and books I found (with only minimal spoilers).
Here’s everything I saw
Andy’s capital-J Journalism briefcase is a vintage Coach Metropolitan bag in black. It’s awkward and unglamorous on purpose. You can find them on resale sites for around $150.

After she and all of her colleagues at the newspaper where she’s been working get fired by text, Andy ends up at her best friend Lily’s apartment. There is a lot of art on the walls because her friend is a gallerist; two of the paintings are remarkably similar to the work ofAmy Sherald, who painted Michelle Obama’s official portrait. I also noticed our favorite stainless-steel compost bin on her kitchen counter as well as a classic pour-over Chemex.

In the first scene at Miranda Priestly’s house, we see a bottle of Aesop hand soap by her kitchen sink. She also has a bouquet of sunflowers arranged to look like Van Gogh himself painted them.

When we next see Andy, she is seated at her desk, looking at Miranda memes related to a scandal at the magazine. There is a copy ofBeautiful Dreamers, by Minrose Gwin, behind her computer. She also has aNew Yorkertote bag by her front door (of course she does), Mrs. Meyers lemon-verbena hand soap on her bathroom sink, and a small bottle of lavender essential oil.

In a scene at Bubby’s restaurant, Andy and her friends are drinking out of the restaurant’s signature small-size Mason jars. Her friend is wearing a Timex watch with a stretchy gold band.

When we first see Miranda’s office, I noticed a shiny stainless-steel Swingline stapler on her desk. She also has a classic green Trudon candle with the gold beehive/crest-shaped label, but I couldn’t see what scent it was.

Nigel wears a few prayer-bead bracelets throughout the movie, like a less chaotic, more upscale Kieran Culkin.

Andy’s office is a literal supply closet at first, but she makes it her own pretty quickly. I noticed a shiny silver water bottle sitting on the desk. It doesn’t have a visible logo and looks a bit standard-issue. But I’m pretty sure it is S’well.

Andy’s work planner seems to be ahardcover Moleskine in black, in which she takes notes for an article about a new Dior retail location with a Blackwing pencil with a pink eraser. But some of the other writers and editors in pitch meetings are using black Muji gel pens.

The two framed prints above the bed in the apartment Andy goes to look at with a friend, where she meets her love interest, are by Block Shop Textiles.

The next morning, Andy is woken up by a loud knock (it’s Miranda) at her hotel room door. When she answers the door, she is wearing a vintage Björk T-shirt from the1995 Post album tourand a Champagne-colored Slip silk sleep mask.

At the end of the movie, Andy is wearing a pair of baggy straight Levi’s with a red tab on the butt and slight distressing on the thighs and pockets. I was 95 percent sure that they were Levi’s Baggy Dad Jeans in the Easy Days wash. But then I heard from a Levi’s brand rep who told me that they are actually light-wash vintage 501 Original Jeans. Levi’s sells versions of the jeans both new andsecondhand.
