You Can Now Buy H&M at Nordstrom

Last month, H&M launched a curated collection of its women’s, men’s, children’s, and activewear lines on the Nordstrom website. I was curious about this choice and reached out to H&M to find out more. It’s H&M’s first time working with a U.S. retailer, and Nordstrom’s curated marketplace model was attractive to the Stockholm-based fast-fashion giant for its emphasis on customer service, according to Kate Rogowski, head of customer activation and marketing for H&M Americas. The move makes H&M more accessible to shoppers and also gives them access to all the perks Nordstrom is known for, like fast shipping and easy returns.
In terms of curation, the selection was chosen based on versatility and the Nordstrom customer in mind, including for young women and kids. There are over2,600 H&M itemsavailable for purchase on Nordstrom’s website, which is a big number but is in fact only a fraction of what’s available on H&M’s website. For example, I filtered for women’s dresses on both sites and got 156 results on Nordstrom.com compared to 1,140 products on H&M.com. The prices and photography are the same across both sites.

As an exercise, I added this dress to the cart on both sites. (I found it funny that the name of the product is slightly different on each site.) On Nordstrom, shipping was free, with free 90-day returns, with a note saying that the item was being sold and shipped by H&M. On H&M, shipping was also free with the following parameters: free shipping for items over $50 for members and over $75 for nonmembers. (I am a loyalty member at both Nordstrom and H&M). H&M offers free 30-day returns. Both orders had a similar estimated shipping window (5/18–5/19 on H&M, and 5/18–5/21 on Nordstrom). I would most likely complete the purchase on Nordstrom, whose customer service is among the best of any retailer — unless I wanted something else that was available only on the H&M website. Generally speaking, if I have a choice between buying something from Nordstrom versus another site, I am almost always going to choose Nordstrom.
