I am notoriously bad at leaving the house. The moment I feel ready is always when I realize I have no idea where my wallet or keys are. I solved the key problem long ago by becoming an early adopter ofAirTags. Still, I’ve been too vain to adopt a chunky AirTag-compatible wallet and am wary of any tracker that requires me to share my location indefinitely with yet another app. So when I read about the ultraslim Find My–compatibleNomad Tracking CardinJoel Kim Booster’s list of things he can’t live without, I had to give it a try. I haven’t lost my wallet since.

Measuring just 1.7-mm. deep, the card is the same size and shape as two credit cards stacked atop each other. This allows it to slide into the slimmest of card slots without stressing the seams of my wallet or leading to unsightly bulging. Even so, it has enough battery power to last up to five months between charges (viaMagsafeor any other wireless Qi charger), depending on usage. I’ve had mine since mid-June, and it still says it’s fully charged when I check in the Find My app.

In addition to not having to download a separate app, the Nomad’s native Find My integration means you can take advantage of Apple’s lost item recovery tools. You can append your email or phone number so that anyone with an iPhone who comes across the tracker can contact you. And you can set the app to notify you if you’ve left it behind anywhere. You can also share the item with others, who can help you look for it when it’s genuinely lost.

Searching for a lost Tracking Card is not quite as easy as locating an AirTag because it lacks Apple’s “Precision Finding” technology, which is exclusive to Apple’s own products. The app still displays the card’s last-known location on a map, and you can get it to play a chime if you’re close enough to connect to its Bluetooth signal, but it’s not the loudest sound. I could barely hear it when I tried burying it in my full laundry hamper. And once the AC kicked on, it was inaudible.

When I first saw that the Tracking Card was IPX7-certified waterproof, I thought it was overkill. But that was before I accidentally laundered my wallet a couple of months back. I’m happy to report that both my wallet and the tracker are no worse for wear.
