Finally, a Phone Grip That Doesn’t Suck

Although I welcome any opportunity to reduce the strain that holding my phone puts on my pinkie, I’ve never been able to commit to keeping a grip on my phone. The extra thickness of most similar attachments — even the thinnest options add some bulk — felt more annoying than the relief it provided was worth. But then last month OhSnap sent me its MagSafe-compatibleGrip Stand. In addition to serving as both a phone grip and a stand, it’s made of such nice materials and adds such useful functionality that it feels less like a utilitarian accessory and more like an extension of my phone.

The grip itself can be used one of two ways: You either fit the joints of the grip between two fingers or slide a finger through the joints for a more secure grip. In both cases, it’s comfortable to hold, even during long stretches when I’m reading an article inReadwise Readeror catching up on Slack threads.
The body of the OhSnap is surrounded by a thin but sturdy metal ring and a small base, which flips out to act as a stand that you can position at almost any angle. By default, it holds the phone in portrait mode, but you can also flip your phone horizontally and the stand will still work. Either way, the OhSnap is sturdy enough for you to interact with the phone while it’s in stand mode without wobbling too much. I like using it for watching YouTube videos while I’m eating my lunch, as well as keeping my phone held up while I’m on a FaceTime call. And if you want to follow along with a recipe you found on TikTok or YouTube, you can stick your phone right to your fridge, as the OhSnap has magnets built in just for that.
Many MagSafe kickstands add a notable amount of bulk to the back of your phone — not ideal for something you may frequently use. The OhSnap, on the other hand, is remarkably thin at just 3.6 mm., so you hardly notice it when not in use. It also looks surprisingly fancy for such a functional accessory. It’s made of a premium-feeling aluminum with a matte finish that has yet to chip or take any sort of damage despite my clumsy hands.
The Grip Stand isn’t the only phone grip and stand with a thin profile. PopSocket’sLow Proworks similarly, but you can only hold the grip one way; the OhSnap’s greatest strength is its versatile and impressively comfortable grip. That, paired with its always available stand, has made it my most-used MagSafe accessory for the past month.
