Save These Black Friday Deals Now, Shop Them Later

Black Friday is a little over three weeks away — it’s on November 27 this year — but lots of deals will begin much earlier. While we can’t guarantee any sale that’s not yet announced, our wealth of knowledge from years past means we have a strong idea of the upcoming discounts, including which retailers are likely to have their biggest sales of the year.
I combed through last year’s sales and several of our Best in Class lists to round up 100-ish items in a variety of categories that will probably drop in price over the next few weeks. If you see something you like and want to stay in the loop, click the heart icon next to any product to save it to your New York magazine account. That way, you can easily check back on the prices of those items once Black Friday is here. Or, you can sign up to receive emails when a product you’ve saved goes on sale — that way, you don’t have to scroll endlessly.

Beauty
Pricey makeup, skin-care, and hair-care are often steeply discounted during Black Friday. Big retailers like Nordstrom, Sephora, Ulta, and Amazon will have the widest variety of products on sale. But be sure to check your favorite brands’ websites, too, as those could better than the big-box stores. (And often, they’ll throw in a free product with purchase.)

Clothing and accessories
A lot of our favorite fashion brands have their best sales of the year during Cyber Week, including J.Crew, Gap, Madewell, Everlane, and Rothy’s. These discounts are a little harder to predict, as there will be truly thousands of items on sale, but you can safely assume most clothing brands will have sitewide discounts. For now, though, I kept my picks below to some of our favorite always-available items from some of our favorite brands. As with all sales, it’s a good time to stock up on basics like underwear and socks.

Mattresses and bedding
Mattress sales go live early and usually stay the same through Cyber Monday. Our best overall mattress, the Saatva Classic, is already discounted (though it might drop more), as is Avocado’s eco-friendly one. For bedding sales, Brooklinen, Cozy Earth, and Boll & Branch make some of my favorites — and bundles are usually at their best prices in November.

Home and kitchen
Another good area to splurge: Expensive cookware and appliances are often on sale during the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving. Some of my favorite brands to shop around this time are Strategist-favorites Great Jones and Our Place. (Caraway already has deals on cookware sets.) Furniture from retailers like Article and Anthropologie typically go on sale well before Black Friday, too.

A lot of unsexy basics and household helpers go on sale, from batteries to water flossers. Expensive-but-worth-it luggage from brands like Away, Quince, and Hulken will also be deeply discounted (and makes a great gift). And if you’ve been contemplating a new vacuum, now’s the time.

Our tech writer Jordan McMahon says Black Friday is best for big-ticket items like TVs, Apple products, and fancy headphones. I’d wager that a few fitness and health trackers, like Oura Rings and Apple Watches, will also have nice sales, especially on older (but still useable) models.
