The Comfy Dansko Shoes Beloved by Cabin Crews

We’re always onvaguely orthopedic shoe watchhere at the Strategist, even on vacation. So when our deputy editor, Simone Kitchens, noticed that a gaggle of Delta flight attendants at La Guardia Airport were all wearing the same low mary jane heels, she was compelled to ask what they were.
The answer was Dansko Fawnas, and the flight attendants were effusive in their praise of them. They explained that Delta enforcesa half-inch-heel minimumon all women’s footwear, even loafers and flats. And so Fawnas — with their built-in arch support, choice of regular and wide widths, and thick 1.5-inch heel — have become a popular choice among flight crews.
When Simone told me this story and Slacked me an accompanying photo, I did a little more research and found out thatflight attendant Redditand the Amazon reviews section are also full of Fawna recommendations from airline workers. They’re known to last forever and can be comfortably worn (straight out of the box with zero wear-in time) for the duration of long shifts in the skies. And while the very ’90s silhouette may not be for everybody, it can be easily dressed up or down.
Personally, I think there’s something appealingly dainty about the Fawnas, especially compared to Dansko’s excellent but very stompyProfessional Clogs, which are a restaurant-industry classic. (They’re also worn by at least four Strategist staffers, among them senior writer Lauren Ro, who got her pair when she was eight months pregnant and desperate for comfortable shoes.)
Delta luckily doesn’t enforce a heel minimum for its customers, so I will continue to wear flats on the plane. But for anyone in a professional job that requires a bit of height as well as long hours of walking or standing around, these seem like an excellent option.
