Strategist Brain” is a series where staffers share the stores they’ve stopped into, stuff they’ve spotted, and extra tidbits from stories they’ve worked on. You’ll hear from a different writer every week.

Inlast month’s Strategist haul, I claimed not to be a shoe person. Well, I’ve bought quite a lot of shoes lately. It all started when I began looking for a pair of wedding shoes. I wanted something nice, maybe designer, but didn’t want to spend a lot of money. I quickly became obsessed with price tracking stuff onthe RealRealso much that I find myself scrolling through pages of sale items before bed instead of TikTok (honestly probably for the best). Some of my favorite purchases so far have been thesevintage multicolored scalloped YSL pumps(purchased for only $47) and thesegreen velvet embossed Stuart Weitzman sandals(only $36) that perfectly match the ceiling of my wedding venue.

I’ve also been spending a lot of my free time browsing bridal (and non-bridal!) vintage pop-ups. The other weekend, I went to a pop-up for vintage resellerFarmer’s Daughterand gasped when I found yet another pair of vintage YSL heels. They were in my size and in near-perfect condition. They were a bit of a splurge but looked just as good with jeans as with the vintage beaded mini from the 1960s I bought (and plan to wear at wedding welcome drinks), so they were an instant buy. I also found another pair here, butthey’re kind of in a rough shape. (If you’re a size 6.5, Farmer’s Daughter also had a second pair in near-perfect condition for $200, so it might be worth reaching out …)

I never thought I would be a multi-wedding outfit or shoes type of person, but all this shopping for wedding stuff (and working here at the Strategist) has inspired me not only to invest in items that last but to just go ahead and buy the stuff that makes me feel most like myself. I’ve never had to shop for such a hyperspecific event — like my own wedding — before and have thus started to use my newfound vintage-bridal sleuthing to find and buy investment pieces to wear beyond the aisle. Some other finds: a silky purple vintageYSL skirt from Depopand a vintage white-lace Stella McCartney turtleneck fromStudio Dorothy, one of my favorite vintage and bridal resellers. (Not “vintage” or my size, but theseThe Row trouserswould be perfect for a City Hall photo shoot.)

As Ambar Pardilla mentioned in her recent roundup ofclip-on earrings, my newfound obsession with clip-ons started at aStudio Dorothypop-up in aTarin Thomasstore where I found a pair of pearl studs for my wedding andthese chunky ones just for fun. These are also beautiful.

These beautiful beaded phone wristlets fromOssahave started to follow me everywhere. I was first introduced to the brand by Tarin Thomas owner Kylie Nakao after I spotted her wearing one of its wristlets on her Instagram. Then, mere days later, I attended a pop-up forColours of Arleyat the Tribeca Ossa store. I fell in love with the wristlets even more seeing them in person. I’m thinking about getting one for my wedding weekend (and for adding a splash of charm to my everyday phone use) but can’t decide between eitherpearl/gold(sadly sold out),chunky multi-pearl, thispearl one with green beads, or alonger, shoulder-length one.

During the winter, you can find me unwinding each day by taking nightly baths. The cold weather may be (finally) behind us, but despite the fact that it’s getting warmer, my habits generally stay the same. I run nearly five times a week and nothing relieves my sore muscles more than soaking in a nice, warm bath of Epsom salts. These (relatively) new salts from Flewd are a nice, more luxurious change from my tried-and-trueDr. Teals. The soaks dissolve quicker than other salts I’ve tried and leave the water topped with a nice, scented foam. So far my favorites have been the ache-erasing soak (which has hints of cedarwood and mandarin) and the panic-crushing soak (which has hints of cedarwood and lemon).

As I mentioned above, I run a lot, so the mileage on my running shoes quickly adds up. I meticulously track the amount of miles on my running shoes, because after they reach 300 miles or so, I start to feel it in my knees and legs. It’s finally that time. So after I run the RBC Brooklyn Half this weekend, I plan to retire the two pairs of New Balance 1080s that got me through both Chicago-marathon training last year and half-marathon training this past spring, and get an updated model.

One of my favorite indie designers, Wray, is sadly shutting down soon. I’m sad to see her go, but luckily the clearance section is full of great stuff like this green plaid dress.

One of my favorite bands, Rilo Kiley, is going on a reunion tour this summer. Ahead of their tour, they released some limited-edition vinyl that is shockingly still available. I bought both, and you should too.

Sour candy is the snack of choice for my fiancé and me, and at this point we are basically sour-gummy connoisseurs. So it should say a lot that these new sour-strawberry candy belts are one of the best new sour candies on the market. (We bought three packs on our last Trader Joe’s trip …)
