Here Come the Tariffs Sales

As the question ofwhat might be worth buyingsooner rather than later races through everyone’s brains due toongoing confusion around tariffs, lots of brands seem to be making the case for adding to cart now — before they areforced to increase their prices.
The Strategist is tracking the effect on severalStrategist best sellers, including our pick for theBest Mattress Overall, the innerspringSaatva Classic. So we noticed right away when, earlier this week, Saatva kicked off what it’s calling a “Beat the Tariffs” sale. However, just like the tariffs themselves, the terms of the sale have continued to shift: The original offer was a sitewide discount on purchases of $1,000 or more, but now it’s a 15 percent discount on mattress and bedding bundles or a flat $300 off purchases of $1,000 or more.
Saatva is one of the first mattress brands I’ve seen address the potential effect of tariffs on its products. In a statement sent via email, director of public relations Shari Ajayi said that even though Saatva manufactures mattresses in the United States, “certain components — such as wire, hardware, and some specialty fabrics — are sourced from international partners, including Canada. Like many American manufacturers, we depend on a global supply chain.” Ajayi added that as of now, the company has not made any final decisions on how to approach tariffs but will continue to monitor the situation. “While our goal is always to maintain price stability for our customers, we are proactively encouraging shoppers to take advantage of current pricing,” Ajayi said, noting that “future increases may be necessary depending on how trade developments unfold.”
Saatva’s current “Beat the Tariffs” deal is far from the best I’ve ever seen from the brand. And given the current uncertainty around tariffs and the frequency ofsales across the mattress industry, it’s impossible to say how much prices might permanently change going forward. That makes it hard to know for sure whether Saatva will explicitly increase its prices as a result of ongoing trade developments, or if “beat the tariffs” is simply a timely label for sales it would have held anyway. Either way, the brand’s products will likely continue to be readily available: “Thankfully, beyond potential pricing adjustments, we do not anticipate any major disruptions to our operations,” Ajayi said.

Saatva has also discounted three of its bed frames by 25 percent. According to a Saatva representative I spoke to through the brand’s online chat, its frames are manufactured in Vietnam. (While Saatva’s mattresses are advertised as American-made, the same isn’t true across the board for its bedding and furniture.) It seems safe to assume prices will go up on these imported frames, but if the Marbella, Marseille, and Sydney frames catch your eye, they are all currently on sale.
